Re: Cybernetics and AI with Serge
Fantastic series! I have a print copy of Cybernetics sitting nearby. I’m a builder but make my own faceplates so i can choose circuits of different formats (if i can get a pcb or use perfboard). My third homebuilt (under construction) is dedicated to chaos, complexity, cybernetics, and ML. I will be...

Re: Getting rid of effects modules and using vsts instead
Years ago i took many of my fx box circuits out of their cases and made modules (with all kinds of cv inputs and even of few outs) out of them. In some cases it was a great move. I made all the switching electronic so i could still activate/deactivate them from the floor switches. It was great havin...

Re: The esoteric out-to-out patching
A lot (not sure the proportion) of modules have a protection resistor on each output. This makes it possible to connect two outputs without frying anything. For modules that do not have these resistors connecting out to out will result in a cooked ic (usually an op amp). Eveen in the case where they...

Re: crash cymbals
I made cymbal sounds with about every module i had back around that same time. I also built it in Reaktor. They were both good learning experiences and placed under “enjoy the journey” as opposed “get to your destination.” Julius Smith had contributed some awesome technology in Physical Modeling. Th...

Re: Sources for LM301 - do you trust Ebay?
Ebay is so so on rare chips. I’m surprised to see comments on other sites of people getting counterfeit 301s since it’s not anything special (just really old). You can substitute a TL071 or a number of other op amps in that circuit. As for knowing if it’s real or not i think if it’s not real it woul...

Freq mod one LFO to the next to the next. Do logic manipulations. Run them through stuff like NonLinear Circuits Neuron and similar.

Re: Best DIY Compressor modules?
If you're up for some 0603 smt, the Galore dynamics processor from Timo Rozendal is a great option, especially for its size. Based of the ne570 compander chip, which you don't see used much. Compressor, limiter, expander, automatic gain control and an envelope follower in 6hp. Quite a dense build, bu...

+1 THAT 4301 is excellent, it’s better than i need. I never fully built one but when i breadboarded one i thought it sounded amazing. Easy to use also.Troubleshooter wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 6:52 amhttp://www.thatcorp.com/4301_Analog_Eng ... ssor.shtml

Re: Countryman 968 6 way vactrol
What readily available three unit vactrols are you speaking off? +1 :) But maybe get a great big bag of LDR's and match them? For a phaser, they do not need to be super fast (I get the idea that the VTL5C3 ones, which are decently quick are hard to come by as separate items, probably because of the...

Re: Share your arduino based projects!
Best i can say is that i did some simple experiments using an arduino to make a PRSG and a very simple neural network. I shoveled the output to a DAC and into my modulars. Was fun but i got sidetracked with health and later, money issues. I still have a few arduinos around perhaps i should give it a...

Been a long time since i used them but the internal heater burns a lot of current. I wouldn’t use for much these days but they do have their own character (what other ppl might even call “flaws”)

Nice. I have my Rick with separate outs for my two pickups. Bridge is a stock and neck is an EB3 monster. Long ago my live amp situation was 1 long throw 18”, 1 front loaded 18”, 4x 12”, 2x double 15”, 1x12 combo, 1x10 combo, 1x 12”. Amps were assorted 60, 100, 200, and 300w heads. It all fit in a c...

I've used various Lexicon hardware digital reverbs in the past (as well as real springs and plates), but my current "go to" source of 'verb is the plug in Aether from 2CAudio. It's algorithmic, rather than convolution/impulse based reverb software. Does a great job of emulating any of the hardware ...

My friend has a Rams Head. It’s much nicer than any of the many other Big Muff Pi pedals that we have. I made a few clones but never got the exact sound and response of the old one. As for bass players with complex electronic crossovers and fx let’s not forget Bootsy Collins and Phil Lesh. (And Chri...
