Re: Old EMS/Synthi Forum archive

There's a FB group which has some useful resources (manuals, schematics etc.). A number of the members have decades of experience with EMS gear - there are a few techs - and it's pretty laid back generally. I think Tim Blake, Howard Scarr and Basil Brookes are there (if 70's cosmic EMS is your thin...

Old EMS/Synthi Forum archive

I was wondering if anyone would know where this data may be? I know it is long gone, a shame really. Is all that information gone forever? If anyone knows, I think it would be beneficial for that to be available.

Here’s a similar red indicator, without bezel, with retaining clip: https://www.ebay.com/itm/INDICATOR-NEON-LAMP-GLOW-BULB-RED-with-casing-AC-12-120V-5-pieces/223648258394?hash=item341279995a:g:0BgAAOSw14RdbUAv attachment=0]CA924542-7D7B-4650-9C15-52EDF666AF50.jpeg[/attachment] I went to the eBay l...

Re: Stackable Cables by TipTop: Bad?!

Post pt. 2: I did a stack test with a yellow Tip Top cable and blue one and then plugged one yellow into my WMD Performance Mixer; then the blue one patched into a separate channel. I figured from an above post I wanted to try out this type of patch. I regularly patched out audio rate oscillators wi...

Re: Stackable Cables by TipTop: Bad?!

I did an A/B comparison between a yellow Tip Top I bought about 8 years ago and a Modular Addict gray stackable using a Livewire Audio Frequency Generator patched directly into a WMD Performance Mixer. The Livewire is installed in my Gator case and is at an about 45-degree angle. The WMD is in a sep...

Re: Stackable Cables by TipTop: Bad?!

@jfloftin I seem to own 21 TipTop stackables at the moment. I don't remember how many I originally purchased when I got into this godforsaken synthesizer format in 2016, but I do remember throwing away 3-4 of the yellow cables. none of my others have 'died' on me, but they are all pretty much prone...

Re: Stackable Cables by TipTop: Bad?!

All of my stackables are from Mod Addict, no issues here (yet - knock on wood), generally cheaper than TT, and Jim ships very quickly here in the US. It wouldn't surprise me if a (any) cable goes bad over time, that's just the nature of the beast. I totally agree with the above statement. I broke o...

Re: Pin Hornet vs. Portabella

Of course it does, but with all the handwringing over will the real Synthi stand up, please… if you’re not going to buy a vintage one, why rule out an alternative? :) Papz has a point in that the SYNTRX has it's own topic here on the forum. Although the SYNTRX has a matrix, it does not to what I ha...

Re: EMS Synthi waiting list

Is there not a close Zero Halliburton case that could be used? If I'm not mistaken, you can pay them to make a custom case, albeit, the custom job is very expensive. Yes. But most people want the case, not a case. The size, shape, look, feel of the original. Once you move past that, and accept some...

The 4ms PEG is digital.
Ah. Thanks for the clarification. In that it is like a 281e then but no saving of knob settings i.e. preset saving capability.

Re: Quadrax Analog Alternatives

At the risk of seeming doctrinaire, it seems to me that the logical analogue replacement for the Quadrax + Qx would be its predecessor, the Quadra + Expander. Intellijel wanted to build upon the Quadra in a way they couldn’t do with analogue technology, so they made the digital Quadrax. If there is...

Re: Has anyone hacked Bishops Miscellay?

What is wrong with it? I would stay away from calling something "junk" unless it doesn't do something it's advertised as doing. If it doesn't work for your workflow that doesn't mean there's something wrong with the module. On recollect, you make a good point. That's probably all you needed to say....

Re: Disapointing Modules

Yeah, I just posted that Bishop's Miscellany goes beyond disappointing and into the realm of pure junk/garbage design and implementation for a CV recorder (oh, forget about the gate portion of the recording... it ain't happening). How in the world can you play in time to a LED? I used my Sputnik Key...

Re: Has anyone hacked Bishops Miscellay?

Since I started this topic I want to say I have concluded that this is a hunk of junk module. It is of no use to me. I have pulled it out of my case and will more than likely just sell it. Mind you, calling it junk will hurt what I get for it but better that than just "throwing it into the garbage" ...

Re: What VCO to recreate Arp sound?

what VCO would you recommend as best suitable for re-creating the early Tonus-Arp 2600 sound? First you have to define what you think the early ARP sound is. Then how that differs from a late ARP sound. Then find someone else who agrees with you. Tonus VCOs have a topology that differ from the late...

Re: new Synthi inspired machine coming from Erica Synths

I am going to chime in on this and say that the matrix layout is the same as the mk2 version of the Synthi 'A' or rather just Synthi as the mk2 was labeled at the bottom. The mk1 version of Synthi 'A's and VCS3 had Oscillators 1 & 2 having the option for the individual waveforms to be available on t...

Re: !!The Pseudo 0.5 258J Build/Mod Thread!!

After 7 years one of the 100k linear pots that adjusts the coarse frequency on one of my 258j oscillators has gone bad. The kit I got from Thonk had unsealed pots. So I guess the Alpha unsealed pots have about a 7-year life span. I am now sourcing sealed replacements. So I guess what I have learned ...

Re: modern cv/gate recorder?

There is the Analogue Systems RS-450 that is a CV and Gate recorder. It is not as extensive as the Roland CSQ-600 but if you go to their website, they have recomended patches that if set up would be ok for a single monophonic patch i.e. one voice. It is pricey at about $1,300... The RS-450 records ...

Re: modern cv/gate recorder?

I recently restored an old Roland CSQ-600 and now that it's working correctly, it seems to be a very useful device when dealing with modulars and step sequencers. You can record into 4 different sections (150 steps max per section) then play them back and dynamically switch between the banks. Plus ...

Re: 3.5mm cable brands that work with 200e

I think you will find this unsatisfying. Within even the same module, you will find variation in some jacks holding a 3.5mm connection and others that won't. As the system wears, expect it to get worse. My modules jacks arrived discolored and I thought I may have some intermittent issues due to tha...
