Re: MOTOR SYNTH
Depending on what you want to capture, I'm now thinking a contact mic might not be what you want. The contact mic will pick up the vibrations transmitted through the case. I'd experiment with that first because I already have one and I'm curious. Any cheap piezo disc type would work (and on your vi...

Re: MOTOR SYNTH
in some ways I am mentally fitting this into the niche of 'synth I've always wanted' in that it seems meant to center more around real industrial and artifical noise - traffic, construction, what the fuck, etc - stuff that you'd hear out in the city, on a train, etc, but maybe on another planet. the...

Re: MOTOR SYNTH
i loved the sound that i heard in demos by the company, so i took a chance and ordered one of these, which arrived today. Just sitting down with it now, and I'm thrilled. now i'm wondering whether any owners here have used a mic on the motor itself and sent it through the audio input? Obviously the ...

Re: Sherman Filterbank love?
Well, i've been away from the filterbank for a long time, which sometimes is very good for revisiting an instrument. I don't think i've had one with the upgrades (starting with the no input noise), and using this as the proverbial 'noise box' will prove to be very satisfactory, I think. I actually h...

Re: What is drone?
dictionaries report on actual usage, so i don't view them as the foundation, but the result. There are different uses and contexts of 'drone', and i think that the foundation is its usage in electronic music, which is what the conversation is about. What a fun topic. I'm late to the party, and this ...

Re: shelves instead of keyboards on kybd stand?
YES. That is the kind of thing i was looking for initially. Thank you. i just didn't know what to look for. i think that the combination of the front lip plus some rubber feet will prevent any sliding (i will probably just use for a single row of synths anyway, so the front lip should be sufficient...

Re: shelves instead of keyboards on kybd stand?
Hey Nelson, Here’s an ikea option. Comes in multiple sizes (~19, 29, 39 inches wide) and 2 colors white/gray. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/komplement-shoe-shelf-white-80257261/ It has a lip on the front to keep synths from sliding off the front when you angle them. It’s made of sturdy metal so is s...

Re: shelves instead of keyboards on kybd stand?
Just don't rely on the adhesive to hold up against a heavy synth unit with the shelf tilted at a steep angle. Might need to use metal screws into the shelf wood for that-drill a pilot hole first before inserting and tightening a long screw partway down. Plastic tubing over the screw to keep it from...

I use one of these on my old 3-tier Ultimate Support A-frame keyboard stands: https://www.homedepot.com/b/Storage-Organization-Shelving-Wall-Mounted-Shelves/N-5yc1vZckso/Ntk-EnrichedProductInfo/Ntt-rubbermaid%2Bshelf?NCNI-5 10 or 12 inch depth, variety of lengths. You could use a few adhesive rubbe...

Re: shelves instead of keyboards on kybd stand?
ah - ok. will look for that.
edit: hmmm - issue would be that they would be at a severe down angle, so would need some kind of lip at the front, or some way to separate 'layers'....

Re: Capturing inspiration
Another thought though: if you have an idea and you forget it, it probably wasn't that amazing. If you have an idea and you can't get to the studio for a week and you still remember it, it's probably worth pursuing. some big presuppositions here fer instance i will not get into it with YOU. sorry.

shelves instead of keyboards on kybd stand?
seems like this should be an easy thing to find, but i have had no luck. maybe a problem with the lingo/search.... i think that i'm going to have a 3 tier keyboard stand with only 1 tier filled with a keyboard. But it would be very convenient to fill the space with various smaller items (desktop syn...

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?
TBH, one thing I really dislike in the noise-GENRE is overcompression. The 0.1bit dynamics in most noise releases is really boring. Metzbow et. al. made the lack of dynamics work in the 90's to 00's, in a surprising way, but these days IMHO, having everything FULL BLAST is a cliche. It can suite so...
