Re: tuning vco question... upper register issue

measure that right at the output of the buffer amp. So I figured it out. Ableton's built in tuner goes whacky around the 3-5k range, I tried another vst tuner, same thing. A friend of mine suggested using my multimeter for hz measurements and I managed to tune it perfectly. Thanks again to all who ...

This thread is getting confusing quickly. Can we condense all of the BOMs / Carts into 1 post for clarity?
Yes that would be great - tbh a google doc for the details/exceptions/variants and google sheets for BoMs I think would be ideal.

Thank you again all for doing this terrible work!

These might also be good for the non-critical positions. They're 1/2 the price of the XVive's and might save builders some cash if you plan on buying extra's to match/select for various parts of the circuit. I plan on grabbing a bunch to test. https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/advanced-pho...

Re: tuning vco question... upper register issue

well, if your getting exact 1.000V steps on the octave switch, and the HF doesnt bring it into tune, then the issue is the finite reset time on the integration capacitor. the HF tracking deals with the exponential converter error, but the finite reset time creates another error. the circuit would h...

Re: tuning vco question... upper register issue

is this while doing the HF tracking adjust? To get to 1/8' tracking solid it was a combo of scale and fine tune to get to about 1' then the linear adjustment, rinse repeat. I"m following the befaco procedure and it worked great up until 1/8' 1/16' and it's getting really tedious and it's painful wi...

Re: tuning vco question... upper register issue

Did you use 0.1% or closely-matched resistors for the switch? (the 120 ohms ones if I recall correctly) If you want to check you should measure the voltage at each pole, it should increment by exactly 1.000V. they were provided with the befaco kit, I tested a few from each batch to ensure values bu...

tuning vco question... upper register issue

Hey, I finished a befaco even vco and I nailed the tuning up to the 1/4' mark but what's occuring beyond that is like a 'split' in the tuning. 1/8' is like 12cents off and 1/16' is negative 8cents or so. I can bring 1/8 in line, but 1/16 goes further off and vice versa. Is it possible the octave dia...

I've dug out my tuning/setup notes for the XVCO I and added the refererences for XVCO II - hopefully this wil help. Great thanks for this! yeah, it sounds like it should be fine. do the 1V/oct tuning first with the scale trimmer down in the 100-200Hz range, then set the freq trim where you want it, and then do the linearity trim last to get the upper octaves on track.
ok great, thanks, i'll give that a whirl!

what is the frequency spread for min/max on the "freq trim" trimpot?
does it matter which setting the octave switch is for this?
