Re: Wavefonix Eurorack Modular System

Interesting! I didn't notice that on my first look. I do love my buttons and switches, but this is kind of cool.

Re: What does "snappy" Really. Mean?

@SkyWriter But the down side of all that 'narrowing the field' is you may be missing important parts of what makes the thing you're istening too fit the term "snappy" Fine as a first pass, but shouldn't IMO be seen as conclusive overall. For example, you mentioned the use of a digital oscillator so...

Re: AD, AR or ADSR ?

I haven’t followed this whole thread, just caught it while I’m out on the deck with a whiskey and cigar :hihi: There are nuances to each of these. Everyone knows the ADSR, so I’m just going to mention some things about AD vs AR. The AD recognizes a trigger. It could be a gate, but it will treat it l...

Re: 5u motm mounting

MOTM format panels will mount with zero issues on standard 19" style rack-rails. Then just get some socket-cap hex bolts, and everything looks great!

Re: Designers: For VCO frequency why aren’t trim pots used for course tune and big knobs for fine tune?

A bit of a thread de-rail, but does 'phase ' on the malekko panel mean 'pulse width'? It's a phase shift, but kind of works like PWM. If I'm not mistaken Grant used a circuit similar to the Hutchins/Ludwig saw animator circuit. I think this is also what's in the FM Aid, but can't be 100% certain. I...

Re: Designers: For VCO frequency why aren’t trim pots used for course tune and big knobs for fine tune?

I prefer large knobs for fine tuning as well. If space is at a premium then I’ll use the same size for both. I personally have never run into torque related wear and tear issues, but depending on how the user interacts with them I could see it perhaps. I’m pretty gentle with my equipment though. 594...

Back on the actual topic, sort of, can I just say that I now love this IC as much as the Dixons, Johnsons, Sowas, and Hoshuyamas of the world. It took me long enough to start using it, but now I can't seem to stop. I exclusively use the SSI version, but it applies to all of them. Now I can truly ha...

Re: [AVAILABLE] Blacet VCO2100 + build thread

Quick note on the 4391. It's fairly easy to solder an SMT MMBF4391 to a through-hole footprint. I've done this on some of my own VCOs in the past before I added the separate SMT footprint. Just make sure to compare the pinouts closely so it's oriented correctly. The SMT ones are cheap and easy to fi...

Re: What we do and why we do it?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using any approach that gets results. Personally, I don't code. Never have quite made it click in my head. I did a little ML/ASM stuff on the C64 in the late 80s, but I had lots of help getting going. Then I didn't keep it up, so basically any time I tried agai...

I'm wondering if something like this: https://plastronics.com/catalog/standard-qfn-clamshell/ is available for purchase anywhere. Going to search around. I started this system last month. Finally at the “fun stage” of the project :) Cheers, Adam 0E8521F7-DE6D-41DE-8B2A-B744BA627CB...

Re: Platform for DIY polysynths

I just re-read your original post. You already covered it, but I was going to mention maybe making cards for the Sequential synths. It would be pretty restrictive, as they'd still have to match the controls present on the synth itself, (without altering firmware and modding the panel I guess :mrgree...

Mine will have X/Y. Reason being I’m a sucker for dual-indexed sine plotting :cloud: It’s either going to be 2x2 or 3x3 for the screen (I just haven’t found a square one that big yet). The PCB will be as small as possible though. It is possible that we could make it so screen is interchangeable to m...

Thanks for the comments! Now I just have to get the last few wired up. It's only about 60-70% usable at the moment, as some of the PCBs are sitting on the bench built, but not wired.

I built a nice little cheapo unit based on the dso138 kit.

IMG_8497.JPG

It's not a highly precise or fast unit, really only useful for visualizing waveforms. But it's nice eye candy. I've got lots of other scopes for "business" use.
I like that layout!
