Re: Deriving CV from video feed

you can also get a colorado video rack unit that derives CV from any single point of luminance on the raster, you can also control the position of that point with CV meaning you could potentially use it as a slow scan image generator or all sorts of other weird things, there are always a couple on e...

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?

The board B trimmers for the envelope shouldn't affect the lamp behaviour. Two set the VCA mute when the envelope is off and one the decay time. The lamp shows the attack and on only, not the decay. A LED can turn off when the envelope is off with series zener diode and resistor SOT to match the LE...

Re: Old EMS/Synthi Forum archive

A few points - the Synthi forum had years worth of valuable information on servicing/maintaining these units contributed from many experts on the subject including some who are sadly no longer with us. It is worth salvaging in what ever form it currently survives in (even just extracting plain text)...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DKB9YP9/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=AIF4G7PLKBOZY&psc=1 These LED indicators work well and have a nice appearance, in my opinion. Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?

farnell part 121-8551 Unfortunately that is indeed the one Graham recommends, however doesn't look at all the the original (although probably a better part). :3 I am looking for something as close to the original style indicator housing as possible (I will either fit a neon or an led with the mods)

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?

You just have to look, you can usually find something close on eBay if you have the right search. Dialight/Dialco made a lot of similar panel indicators for Moog and Buchla. Bulgin may have made the indicators for EMS. Many of the same lamps (and other things) were used in British made guitar amps ...

Re: Old EMS/Synthi Forum archive

The FB group is excellent but no substitute for the forum which had some incredible bits of hard to find info contributed over the years. Further more the FB is even more prone to vanishing based on the whims of FB who could turn off functionality over night. It would be great to get the old synthi ...

Re: Old EMS/Synthi Forum archive

I think Pin has a back up of it but I am not sure if it will ever see the light of day now his focus has shifted. It would indeed be good to make that info accessible for synthi owners

Thanks both, I had seen similar ones, I have seen some synthi with one that has a step in it and wondered if anyone had a source for that style, but this looks good too (also the really early ones have a dome shape) Here’s a similar red indicator, without bezel, with retaining clip: https://www.ebay...

Re: Tired of buggy modules

as more an more people jump into a market you get the ones who are selling an abstracted idea or a service and are less worried about the material reality or functionality of the actual thing they are selling, with energy drinks or other useless shite this isn't an issue but with musical instruments...

Re: CGS514

Such a shame to see a backwards step like this, I don't do DIY if the schematic isn't available as quite simply it's difficult to adapt or trouble shoot a circuit without one. Synth DIY isn't a passive consumer activity it's an active participatory culture, or it used to be...

Hi micromusic, I am not sure how much this will help as I am only part way through the build of the voice card. Simon Bailey one of the original designers sold me his last board and panel, I have made up some brackets, filled in the remaining physical components on the panel and a friend is trading ...

It's quite refreshing to see a synth that doesn't pretend to be a re-issue and has it's own thing going on.

Nothing ground braking but true instrument design.

A great edition to the world of synths for sure.

I think the through hole designs with flying wires were better for old school DIYers who wanted to build in their own format or modifications. Not really bothered by SMT. I hope Blacet continues in some sort of official form that respects his wishes and relatives. He has contributed some great desig...

I have the 80-6A low-pass and the 80-7A SVF. My SVF is still out of action waiting for the switch to get cleaned up, but I remember the 4-pole LPF mode sounding the same as the 80-6A to my ears. I used to have them patched on two voices and they sounded comparable to me. I never liked the 2-pole mo...

Anyone have info on what font was used originally? I was thinking of just going with the FPD files on digidound80.co.uk, but might consider trying to make them look closer to the originals. And finally, what sort of right-angle PCB standoffs were used on the originals? I've never seen any quite lik...

2) does any one have case measurements or advice, I am thinking of doing a 2 rows of six in a simple square cabinet does that sound sensible? FWIW, I had 12 modules in a pair of cases for a while and I tried both side-by-side (12x1) and one on top of the other (6x2). I found 12x1 worked much better...
