Awesome news from Mannequins and I thank them whole heartedly for not throwing us under the bus. I love the Just Friends and with this assurance I'll be picking up a second.

Noise Engineering, Mannequins, Monome and Mutable are companies that strike me as looking toward the future of novelty rather than reinventing past nostalgia.

Re: update

Just a quick update: I went with the mantis--everyone recommended it. Once seeing the blue lantern in person, however, it did feel very sturdy and the aluminum material was rock solid. I think the main thing was that I didn't like the aesthetics of it and also that people seemed to be more trustwor...

I'd like to see manufacturers (other than the ones that already do) open source their schematics after X amount of time...so that when this stuff breaks, some one will be able to fix it. I keep wondering what life will be like in 15 years if my Piston Honda dies..

It's been a long few days but I believe we've found a solution to move forward on a modification for the existing Just Friends modules that will avoid any issues with potential damage to unprotected module's outputs. At present we're arranging the logistics of how these modifications can happen sea...

The workaround should suffice. Worth implementing in order to move on: "The easiest workaround is to always patch a loose cable to the RUN jack first, before connecting a voltage source. While this may be less flexible than traditional patching, this approach makes sense for the modal-type interact...

We shouldn't have to twist ourselves into knots discussing 'hacks', while dealers are getting reassurances. considering this threads about 4 days old, theres been a pretty good response from whimsical (IMHO) - dealers have been contacted and a fix is being worked on. how fast do you expect this to ...

That being said I wonder what is the best way to fix a situation like this without destroying the manufacturer's financial position? :hmm: I guess this is one of the reasons software is spreading throughout our lives. I'm all for a solution that doesn't cripple Whimsically Raps, can't really do tha...

No one has gone on a crusade, and if anything the badmouthing has been against modules without protection. You're right - I should have clarified. This was mainly stuff I heard in person at MiM, not anything I explicitly read here on the forum. Whimsical Raps/Mannequins is a pretty polarizing brand...

I was also sadly affected by this, but it hasn't diminished my enjoyment of Just Friends. I totally get the frustration, though, coming from both users and fellow designers; it was definitely a shitty night when my brand new Random Sampling got fried after connecting one of the gate outs to the RUN...

There are plenty of other threads about the Maths problem. As far as 'dangerous' vs 'unprotected' modules, I'm inclined to side with the creators of the dangerous modules, because people will always do stupid things, if not intentionally. All modules should have proper protection against stupid. Tha...

Damn that sucks.. So we need to be careful what is sent into the run input. Anyone know if this can be fixed with a firmware update? How can we know what will be safe and what not? As far as I can tell, it only happens when the run jack gets shorted/halfway in. If you're not sending it back, always...
