Re: NI Maschine+ standalone groovebox

My first impression was that this was a Photoshopped joke! So I went to NI’s web site to verify it and there it was. They finally did this. It is too late, but they did it. I am not really into Maschine. I have a Mk1 controller. If they come up with something that gives me just the NKS browser and e...

Re: Ridiculous sounds, that we still love...

The sound that a pencil makes when you whack it on the edge of a desk and pull it back to change the pitch of the vibration.

I have loved that sound for as long as I can remember. I probably cracked up the “lead” (carbon) core in a lot of pencils.

Re: Dave Smith hint of a new synth coming up in August

I would be happy with a polyphonic thing like the Prophet-12 with the dual filter architecture and modulation sequencer of the Pro-2.

Then I could sell my 12 and my 2, get the new thing, and have room for another new thing.

It’s gotta have the tuned feedback and the FM.

Re: Korg Kronos

I messed around with workstations for a long time and eventually asked myself wtf I was doing since I just goof around in my home studio and also own licenses for a stupid number of softsynths and samplers. So I bought an 88 key controller and sold the Kronos. I still mess around with groove boxes a...

Re: Gear suggestions: moving away from Elektron

The way you have to program things in the Cirklon to get interesting I feel like the Tracker approach with the Polyend seems to give faster results and seems more joyful for that. Ofc it's not a fully fledged midi//CV hub Honestly the Polyend thing doesn’t look like I would gel with it for similar ...

Re: Gear suggestions: moving away from Elektron

I didn’t gel with the Cirklon. It does not, at least in my opinion, do polyphony well. It seems more designed to run monophonic synthesizers and drum machines. That just says you don’t how to use properly. Why would you even buy a sequencer at that price and not bother to learn how to use it? Becau...

Re: Gear suggestions: moving away from Elektron

One way to make the Elektron stuff have longer patterns is to go polyrhythmic and make each track a different prime number of steps long. For example four tracks with 3, 5, 7, and 11 steps repeats every 1155 steps. It might be that is not what you are looking for, though. The Deluge is an interestin...

Re: What's on your waiting list?

It has been almost one year since I last answered “nothing.” Right now I am waiting patiently for my confirmation email for the E520 Hyperion module for which I did pre-KS funding. I think I would also say I am waiting for the Waldorf Iridium to come out and see/hear some demos and user experiences....

Re: The Elektron Model:Cycles Thread

I decided to pull the trigger on one of these. I was trying not to, but then they came back into stock at Perfect Circuit and we cancelled a fairly expensive summer vacation to avoid people. I did try and pull that one but the money we'd put aside for our summer vacation has been spent on a coup an...

Re: Enjoy Electronics - Reminder Effects Unit

As of the loopop review, it missed too many marks for me despite being made beautifully. Ignoring the lack of balanced outs and send/return from/to the feedback loop, major cons mentioned in the Loopop review are that the LFO does not have delay time as a modulation target and there is no tape (or o...

Re: The Elektron Model:Cycles Thread

I have an A4 mk1, a Digitakt, and a Digitone. I also have a large number of other things that I just lump into the “Groovebox” category. I definitely don’t need a Model Cycles at all. It is a bright, shiny, new thing that looks fun, though. I think I am just going to install the new OS updates and e...

Given I have a Digitone already is there any real reason to buy one of these other than it looks fun and is inexpensive? Simpler, faster, more fun, less futzing around with menus, etc?

Re: Never meet your heroes

I have a dislike for signature guitars, amps, and pedals. I bought a used signature guitar once (Ibanez Joe Satriani something-or-other) for about $1k and turned it around for the same price in about a week because it was so “not me.” I didn’t think it would turn me into Joe or something like that, ...

The weirdest effect processor thing I own in stand-alone hardware is probably a Bastl Thyme.

I always thought it would be amazing if Sonic Charge were to manage to make a hardware version of their Permut8 plugin.

Hmm, thanks for the reminder. I bought Mux a long time ago, got into building some basic synths with it, then sort of forgot about it. Does anyone know if Mux supports audio feedback now? It did not when I got into it. I see audio rate modulation of parameters listed as a feature but I am not clear ...

Re: Cheap pedals worth having

I did a lot of trading pedals in and out of my guitar pedal board when I was still really into guitar. Ibanez makes a nice flanger pedal that you can probably get used for under $100 (FL9). It is basically the same as the Mason FL9. I have this thing called a Subdecay Stupid Box that is probably dis...

Re: Do you reckon there will be a Sequential Pro3 Desktop module?

I put “probably not.” It seems more like a player’s synth than a synth that sits as a module.

If you are looking for a DSI something-or-other, I would pick the one that is closest to what you want and learn to work with it.

cheers for the heads-up - this is ok for a little freebie. One question to anyone else using it : I can't use it in my DAW ( Live ) on either my Mac or Windows machine - it'll only run standalone which severly limits it's usefulness. The Voltage Modular Bundles / .dll plug-in files are in the corre...

Klevgrand plugins

Does anyone have any opinions? Modley seems interesting. It is their take on a modular delay system. Their instruments are minimalistic but interesting and they have bundles. There is a sale going on with a code RobinHood. I think you need to hit a threshold spending or number of plugins to get the ...

Re: Prophet Rev 2 Desktop...or similar

I have the original P’08 PE rack. It makes a nice companion to any of the four voice Elektron sequencers. You can do four note chords with one layer and a thick unison bass with the other.

The Peak is more versatile for sound design. In my opinion. In typical wiggles fashion, I have both.
