Re: Hi-fi Gurus: Stylus/Cartridge upgrade for an old Rega in 2020

The improved sparkly bits I think is down to to my valve amps. Valves are known for high end sparkle due to harmonics. I wonder if the things you are hearing from the Schiit are due to its trademarked "Continuity" output stage. Not sure. I thought the continuity mode only kicked in at very high vol...

Re: Re:

From interviews and his Facebook entries I got the impression that he is frustrated with the whole music industry, because he expressed that he couldn't get any money out of his releases. It must be hard for people making fringe music who broke out just at the peak of music sales before Napster got...

Re: Hi-fi Gurus: Stylus/Cartridge upgrade for an old Rega in 2020

I can't help but think though you have made multiple budget purchases and you could probably have just aimed higher to begin with for the same outlay. Absolutely true, but I don't really have many regrets. Except for the cartridges everything was pre-owned but like new and some were fantastic price...

Re: Re-shipping service?

@OP Freight forwarders do what you're describing every day. It's what they do. One thing about freight forwarders though, they tend to charge higher fees than normal carriers, but they can be a good solution if you want to buy online from a company that will not ship to your country. (Another frust...

Re: Re-shipping service?

As a UK resident, anything I get shipped from the USA gets held back by UK Customs and Excise until I have handed over what they consider to be the correct import duties. This even happened when I shipped a synth to DSI in San Francisco for repair. Despite DSI clearly marking my synth as a repair r...

Re: Tony Allen RIP

sounds much better on vinyl than what you hear on youtube I can only imagine how deep this must sound on vinyl. Youtube is a woefully inadequate way to consume music, yet without it I never would have heard this amazing track, so I shouldn't complain too hard  Yeah I love youtube for the acces...

Re: Re-shipping service?

Are there any wigglers in the continental US who will re-ship to Europe for sales between US sellers and European buyers? The idea is that I do not want to ship to addresses outside of the continental US, but I may have a buyer who wants shipment to Europe or Uk. I would sell and ship to the domest...

funny - with all of this talk, i find myself starting to think about trying one again. but I had forgotten about another issue that I had with it - i really had trouble with reading the display. SIGN is nice and kinda heavy in some ways. it's deep and resonant. In this NYT piece https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/13/arts/music/autechre-sign-interview.html Sean Booth says: It’s strangely jarring. It’s sort of too real. All this Covid stuff has put me in a really different place from where I wa...

I was driving with my 7-year-old the other day and put on SIGN. He went quiet and after a while said, "Dad, I like this. I'm meditating."

regarding preamps - seeing as your a wiggler. You MIGHT have studio mic preamps at hand?? if so - read on. I use a Radial Phono DI (J33) to take the turntable signal and convert it to Mic Levels + do the RIAA conversion. Then it can plug into any mic preamp. Unfortunately I do not have a pre-amp ev...

Re: Toraiz Squid Workflow & Usage Discussion

i can see that. I find myself compelled to use a cliche, which is tempered to some degree by not remembering what the cliche is..... i'm finding that unlike the more powerful sequencers, this is OBVIOUSLY very limited, but it doesn't only force me to do cumbersome things. It channels some of that r...

Re: The Moog One

I mean if you're going to go for the 8, just go for the 16 is how I'd see it. It's no surprise to me that most of the Ones I've seen in videos have been 16s. I agree. But here is an interesting thing. Going by Sweetwater, the price difference for the extra 8 voices is $2,000. For reference, the pri...

First time I have heard that, masterfully done I must say :tu:
It's beautiful, and sounds much better on vinyl than what you hear on youtube. Gorgeously lush.

Villalobos has done some remixes to:

The other cool functionality of the note repeats is you can add note and velocity offsets for each repeat so repeats can go up and down the scale or velocity.

Re: Sequentix Cirklon

I suppose I find the discussion about relative sequencer merits to be interesting, but I suppose I get too annoyed when people don't get that so much of the decision is subjective, based on what and how you like to work, and your understanding and preference of the different features. If I had Dubo...
