Re: Gear suggestions: moving away from Elektron

I didn’t gel with the Cirklon. It does not, at least in my opinion, do polyphony well. It seems more designed to run monophonic synthesizers and drum machines. That just says you don’t how to use properly. Why would you even buy a sequencer at that price and not bother to learn how to use it? Becau...

Re: Sooooo frustrated with threaded strips

I have had to rotate threaded strips 180 degrees to get them to line up properly due to imprecision on the cut, which is admittedly annoying but it's a one-time thing. Can you explain more what you mean by this? You're talking about moving the rails side to side until they're positioned as you say?...

Re: Sooooo frustrated with threaded strips

You need to make sure that the threaded strip is well-positioned in the rail and also lined up with the other strip before tightening down the first module. Amazingly enough, Doepfer modules with the regular mounting holes are the perfect template for this alignment because they conform to the spec....

Re: ES-3 V/Oct tracking issues

Also my Semi-modular doesn't have a dedicated output so no way to use Silent way to calibrate it. You can patch a constant voltage (for instance, from another ES-3 output) into the gate of your synthesizer to keep the VCA open through calibration. Set the envelope sustain to maximum, open the filte...

Re: SW DC / Cubase automation problem

Thanks.

I'll add that it's not that the output is chunky, the knob movement in reaction to the automation is itself visibly chunky. Manually sweeping the knob with the mouse is smooth and produces a nice, continuous output.

Cubase 9.5, btw. SW 2.7.2 (although I tried 2.8.0 as well and it behaved the same way).

SW DC / Cubase automation problem

I almost never use automation in Cubase, but I noticed recently that at some point they added better bezier-like curve editing, so you can get nice exponential and logarithmic style curves going. Perfect opportunity to use some spare channels on the old ES-3 to spits some modulation out to the modul...

Re: Polyend Tracker

Cool demo, Junglechrist. I've been wanting to hear more jungly stuff from this machine. Can anyone comment on how well this thing performs as a MIDI clock slave? Is timing integrity maintained? A lot of sequencers tend to get a bit wobbly when they aren't the master, which in this case would ruin th...

Re: 1010 Music Bitbox - Sampler/Looper

I don't know about other OSes, but at least in Windows the driver model (ASIO, WDM, MME, etc.) has a huge impact on auditioning drum sounds or other sounds that start with a sharp transient. MME seems particularly bad -- it's high-latency and adds a fade-in when playback starts that mangles the init...

Re: Help! Doepfer A185-2 precision adder troubleshooting

I don't know about your exact problem, but I found in the past that the normalized Cliff jacks on my unit got a bit worn out over time and eventually started misbehaving if nothing was patched to the inputs. Maybe this module doesn't handle open/floating connections well? My solution was to gently b...

Ah, interesting. So it's a bit of an "in for a pound" sort of thing. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing what Colin cooks up, but more as a pleasant surprise than out of any pressing need.

Re: Sequentix Cirklon

I will definitely be upgrading. At some point (hopefully at release) there will be some cool new features that require 2.0 (apart from the obvious display/touch upgrade), otherwise what would be the point of introducing a new version? I also plan on getting the D-MUX and upgraded CVIO board, assumin...

Re: Obsessing about MIDI latency and jitter

I don't think you're going to do better than Silent Way for either latency or jitter when it comes to spitting out MIDI from your DAW. It's essentially perfect. If you have a spare SPDIF output, an ES-40 + ESX-8MD will give you 8 output ports. It's a shame there isn't an input version, but at least ...

I can understand not wanting to mar the panel or the nuts, that's why the good Lord created soft-jaw pliers. This is a two minute job. If you don't try it out I'm gonna be sad.

Re: attentuverter grinding/scraping noise?

I felt the same way about an Intellijel Quad VCA, it felt like one of the pots was defective. But it was the panel being slightly misaligned. Re: attentuverter grinding/scraping noise?

In my experience, this is often due to the shaft rubbing against the front panel. It can help to loosen all of the panel nuts (on the jacks, pots, etc.) and then see if the panel can be shifted around slightly, even just a fraction of a millimeter can make all the difference.

I had a bit of an LOL at the reverb pre-delay demonstration on a 100% wet signal, but this thing is sounding pretty good. Too bad my 1u row is all full of Quadratts. I'd hop on a 3u version.
