My point was that the K2000 and K2500 can't route the output of one layer into another, so the extent of you processing it only parallel, not serial, beyond the extent that you can process in a single ALG page. Wrong. The K2000 can't. The K2500 can . Re-read what I wrote carefully. Besides, here is...

Re: Re:

A single sound source can also be routed to several layers, each layer can additionally be totally different. This is parallel processing on a large scale. The number of different sounds you can make via this is staggering. My point was that the K2000 and K2500 can't route the output of one layer i...

Re: New Ensoniq ESQ-1/SQ-80 programmer from SynthArk

Did these come to be? they seem to be available on their website, so I'll guess the answer is yes. I will mention a drawback some may find--the ESQ-1 can receive sysex to edit sound parameters, but it doesn't apply those edits to notes that are already sounding, so if you hold down a key, and try t...

Re: ASM Hydrasynth as MPE controller

sure it is, it just doesn't implement every feature of the protocol. Because most keyboards don't implement PolyAT, do that make them not MIDI?

Re: ASM Hydrasynth as MPE controller

No, it’s an MPE controller. You just have to switch on the MPE setting. If you read my earlier post, you see I controlled my MicroMonsta with both in MPE mode. The MicroMonsta doesn’t support PolyAT, so the only way is to use MPE mode. See this screen shot from the manual (note it sends MPE data): S...

Sorry, but you are confusing mpe with poly aftertouch. Hydrasynth is not an mpe controller.
The HS does support MPE, though it is more limited than something like a Roli since it provides no independent way to pitchbend individual notes. But for what it does, it works fine with MPE.

I have tried rotating the photo 90 degrees before posting it. Still it shows up in landscape mode, not the desired portrait orientation. I guess I'll have to change the way I take the photo. Some phones adjust the orientation of the image with a flag rather than rotating the actual pixels. Most bro...

Re: SY99 or DX7II?

There's also expandable RAM for samples, FX processors, sequencer, drum sounds & patterns... Agree, the SY99 is an amazing machine, on of my favorites, and a great keybed (though, like the DX before it, it doesn't quite hit 127 on the velocity scale.) An interesting point on this one--first, Sector...

then you should also upgrade the OS while loading the ROM objects. Without KDFX, I think the last OS was 3.something. Any later OS requires teh KDFX option.

portamento--at least how it is implemented in synths is such a corny sound, I should hate it, and I kind of do, but sometimes, in the right place, it can actually sound quite appropriate.

which IMHO Kurz should have called "Presets"
to a point, but "objects" refers to not just presets but all the stuff they are dependent on like keymaps, studios, etc. So "object" is the generic term that relates to all of them.

BTW, to the OP, what version of the OS is on your K2500?

Re: Gaps, filling in, why hardware

if you are interested in an Xtreme Lead or Orbit, why not just look for the ROMs and stick them in the P2500? The XL-1 ROM usually goes cheap. The orbit ones, not so much. I have a K5000S. Its very different from everything else I have. It has some really cool unique tools like its 128 band modulata...

I'm jealous. I occasionally see Capybaras I could afford, but never Pacas or Pacaranas. I'm hesitant to buy a Capybara since it is essentially no longer supported.

Re: ASM Hydrasynth as MPE controller

Just to confirm that the Hydrasynth can control my MicroMonsta when both are in MPE mode. The aftertouch works correctly--I just patched it to filter cutoff in a sound, and I could easily open the filter on some notes and not others. I do kind of think that the Hydrasynth should have dedicated butto...

Re: Kurzweil K2000R basic model worth $100?

the achilles heel of the K2500 (i forget what the K2000 used) is the batteries for memory backup. It uses three AA batteries, and of course AA batteries are far more likely to leak and corrode than say a CR2032 or similar. So the first thing I'd do is get three AA batteries to throw in it. BTW, a K2...

Re: ASM Hydrasynth as MPE controller

I havne't had a chance to hook mine up that way, but I'm hoping this weekend to plug it into my MicroMonsta (the only other MPE synth I have) to see how it fares. I will say that with its own internal sound engine the poly aftertouch works beautifully--very controllable. Obviously, you won't get som...

pull the floppy, and get a scsi2sd. Aside from doing firmware updates (of which there are no new ones coming out) the floppy isn't necessary for anything. Thats what my K2500RS has.

Re: Help Choosing first semi modular. First synth as well!

Korg MS20 of course.... Since the OP is new to this, it should be pointed out that the MS20 uses a different standard for control voltages than eurorack. So as a self contained semi modular, it can be great, but it is less than ideal as a starting point into a larger modular world. You can get euro...

Roland's accordions can send MIDI too. I love the sound of the different squeezeboxes--probably from listening to too much Astor Piazzolla.

I don't think you can tailor it in any way, but I've found the Proteus 2000* randomize frequently creates very interesting and usable sounds. I never learned to play my Accordion well, but I wrote some music with it. This was "phrase sampled" then assembled and lightly layered with several parts and a bass. This was written ~25 years ago:

what this forum really needs is more in depth discussion about accordions and banjos.
I remember buying my first accordion from some guy in New Jersey. He said his wife told him that he had to reduce his total accordion count to under 200. So accordion owners suffer from GAS as well.

I believe he was referencing SAS--serial attached SCSI. It uses the SATA connection (like modern desktop computers), but IIRC uses the SCSI command set instead of the ATA commands. It is in no way compatible with devices that used the older parallel SCSI--25, 50, 68, or 80 pin. All the parallel SCSI...

I'd say absolutely yes for $100. Sample RAM is standard 30 pin SIMMs, so you can max out the RAM relatively cheaply. It uses FAT floppys, so dumping a small WAV to a floppy to move it to the unit is super easy.) Its not as nice as a K2500R or K2600R, but its still cool and unique. Some of the DSP bl...

Re: SY99 or DX7II?

Even after they fixed the original DX7s velocity 100 issue, Yamaha keyboards that I’ve used still had trouble getting to 128. A couple years ago I tested all my keyboards and most easily played a full velocity range, but my SY99 and my VL-1 couldn’t get above 115, and that was hitting the key very h...
