Re: The "Show Us Your Filters" Thread

Good news: I finished filling in my cabinets with three new filters. Bad news: I've done very little playing since ☹ Filters circled in red in the picture below. On the upper left: dotcom Q107 State Variable Filter; Q150 Transistor Ladder Filter; Krisp 1 made Oakley Croglin Duel Lowpass Filter. On u...

From a sound point of view, maybe not surprised, but... I love, love my Mos-Lab bank of 901s.
...the old ones ? or the new ones.?
The new ones. I picked them up right after Seb announced he was going to build them again about a year and half ago or two years ago.

Re: Your surprised-you-module(s)

This might seem like a strange choice, but I picked up a Corsynth C107 Quad VCA mostly because you can't have enough VCAs... It quickly became the heart of every one of my patches. It's ultra flexible and I found a million and one uses for it. By far the biggest surprise - such an un-sexy module, ye...

Re: Greatest electronic song ever.

Why are almost all of the entries from before 1990? No Björk, BoC, Broadcast, James Blake, Kaytlin Aurelia Smith, LCD SS, Wu Tang, Thom Yorke, or...Miley Cyrus?! :miley: I'm an old fart, so I like old music ;) Actually, I do like a lot of new music, but when we say "greatest", well, maybe it is nos...

I agree with Rexi that it's like picking your favorite grain of sand on the beach... I'm going to say that it needs to be 100% electronic bust give the word "song" a little more leeway and propose something a little different: https://youtu.be/y9X870zqqPg A few of my favorites have already been talk...

Re: BARP 2500?

My guess, if this happens sooner than later, is that it will be a series of eurorack modules, like System 55 (not a Moog System 55 but modules so you can build a clone) and the System 100 (not a Roland System 100 but modules so you can build a clone). So the 2500 won't be an Arp 2500 but some module...

Old movies - in 1969 John Barry used a synth in the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". It's a great soundtrack.

Wow, a lot of health issues. Hope you stay healthy. I won't say much about religion, but if people insist on intelligent design (or whatever they call it), then they are pretty much saying God is an awful engineer... Now, back to music, I once heard that the 4th Movement on Beethoven's 2nd Symphony ...

Re: classical music

there are a lot of lesser known classical composers - bit of a travesty how under rated some of them are considering how incredible their work is. it REALLY shits me that we kinda have 1 main orchestra in Sydney - and all they do is play Bach, Mozart and Vivaldi (more or less) /rant. Years ago I di...

Re: classical music

Strange, but I didn't see one mention of Stravinsky. I would have though the Rite would be close to the top - it is an easily accessible entry to the 20th century. Also interesting that I didn't see Varèse. You can't listen to the more experimental pieces of Zappa without knowing Varèse, and if you ...

Re: RIP Ennio Morricone - il Maestro

RIP to a great composer. It might be silly, but my favorite moments are the Carillon themes from For a Few Dollars more. Each time it comes back (5 times on the soundtrack) it is slightly different, with different orchestration, but always great!

Re: Large components = fat sound?

This might be irrelevant, but... Watching videos the 5U/MU often do seem fatter than the Euro... What if you were to listen to the videos without watching? Are you confident you'd reach the same conclusion? There's no rational reason that modules in one format would inherently sound different than ...

Re: Large components = fat sound?

This might be irrelevant, but... Watching videos the 5U/MU often do seem fatter than the Euro so I can see why someone might say they ARE fatter, but I always just attributed it to the fact that a lot of 5u/MU builders and players are trying to recreate a vintage sound, like the sound of a Moog, whi...

My hair is longer than it has been since I was in high school, and right now it is somewhere between Franz Liszt and Rick Wakeman in the early to mid-1970s (That's Wakeman in the 70s - Liszt would be in the 50s (1850s) ;) ) If I go much longer without a haircut, I will need a ponytail!

Re: Strings and saw waves

Over the winter I experimented with trying to get a real string sound. I didn’t have some tools I wish I did (i.e., FFB). I did pretty much what you said – different saws (and sometimes the same saw split several ways) but a little bit of square going through three different filters. One saw was als...

Today the last video online, last track from the Patch & Tweak Vol.2 series. Out may 15 on Bandcamp!

Pretty cool. The sounds reminds me of Ray Lynch, though of course it is darker overall.

The other day I was watching Dr. Sleep and listening to the ominous heartbeat sound (used first in The Shinning). I thought "I can do that" and came up with the following heartbeat. Then I felt like adding some respiration. Then an EKG. It's not finished yet but I wanted to share what I've got so f...

Re: ADSR - Individual CV control for each function - Necessity?

I do use it a lot, though, admittedly, usually just on the attack for articulation. Also, admittedly, I don't use it enough. I want my synth to have the expression capabilities of an acoustic instrument, and that means being able to control everything. It's a modular, modular means control.... I'm n...

There are a lot of clones out there and there seems to be more every day. The clones, from the new KARP 2600 to the dreaded "B" company, all sound great. On the modular side, I love, love the way my Mos-Labs 901's sound. Nothing modern comes close. I don't know about poly-synths yet, but there will ...
