Re: Best sounding sampler in eurorack?

Nothing really to add on sound quality, but I think it's worth pointing out that in Euro-land, there are many different ideas of what a 'sampler' should do. Sound quality might be important to you, but in reality the 'best-sounding' module might not have the functionality you want. Back in pre-2000 ...

Re: Why no Eurorack piano module?

We have an actual piano (upright, old). Now I am thinking of sticking some mics in it and feeding into the modular.

Re: Spring Reverb Comparison 2020

My guess is that the tank accounts for 90% of the sound quality - the module is really just an amplifier with some controls. I have had both of the MTM modules, currently just have the Mk2 with the long tank and the brick. The brick doesn't sound great on its own, but the blended sound is good when ...

...While working with a more vertical rig, I can just ***sit*** straight and look straight at it while using it. But each to their own. :) I just realised this is another factor in ergonomics - I stand while using my modular, which makes the vertical case easier to use. My big beef about most modul...

Re: Vertical or horizontal? The ergonomics of modular:

I use the Doepfer base case with their regular case on top, and another skiff. Sequencers and controllers in the skiff and base, vcos, filters, effects up top generally. I find that setup to be very ergonomic and immediate. I don't have to reach or lean for anything. I feel like horizontal is only ...

Simple fast question: Ambient-ish / chill music, low space in the rack: Mimeophone or Sarajewo?
Ha ha, you know the answer! AND

Technically mimeophon does so much more, but I love dub echoes and Sarajewo just has *that* vibe about it. Back to my first answer.

Re: Building a performance instrument - sequencers / random functions

Re sequencers: what are you going to do with them / it? If you are going to make Techno (ho hum) then something like the Beatstep Pro or Eloquencer would probably appeal. If you are looking for a more modular approach, I would have thought Rene (either versions) would be perfect. If you want to use ...

Just updated the initial post for updated specs and links. First time I have seen the term 'companding' since the cassette multitracker...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer

In a 7u 104hp system, do you think the expander is worth the space? Or would mixing it up with other sequencers be more fun. Like o_C or a Marbles. I have 9U x 84 + 6U x 104, and I didn't get the expander. If your musical genre requires conventional drums, bass and melody then maybe you can use all...

I really appreciate those modules that have a trimmer to adjust LED brightness. earlier 4ms modules had really bright LEDs so the trimmer on QCD was welcome.

Absolutely prefer no spring in mine. But i'll take a spring return to center stick over a stick that slowly moves down if it's at a 45 degree or larger angle.
As I get further past age 65, this sounds so familiar.

That price puts it well above all other eurorack delays that come to mind: Make Noise, 4ms, Alight Devices. Only Rainmaker and Magneto are in that price range. I was going to just grab it, even without a demo. Now I think I need to really hear what it's all about before considering nabbing it. At t...

Re: Ladik S-280 Sequencer (32 HP)

Yes, I saw this - the black one looks great, and overall this looks like an extremely capable 'traditional' step sequencer. One thing I am keen to find out - as regards the gate switches, does 'off' just mean no gate for that step, or does it mean that the step is skipped over? There aren't many seq...

Re: Help with sequencer selection

So if you want to use more than two CV tracks, you need the expander. Is that correct? Kind of. There are two sets of gate-pitch-velocity outputs, so that is 4 CV outputs. Each set isn't tied to a single 'track'. You can use 6 sequencer channels to control each output separately. You don't have to ...

All the Sputnik modules; Xaoc Moskwa (but there is supposed to be a Mk II coming); Modcan dual delay and FMVDO; Clouds. I don't have a Sport Modulator but I wish I had grabbed one when I could. HexInverter Orbitals was a great sequencer that I never bought when it was available.

Just out of interest, what is your case? It's highly unlikely that it's the problem, but I once briefly had a Pittsburgh Cell case and about half my modules that worked in other cases wouldn't work in it at all.

Easily explained. Many of the doepfer designs date back to when through hole multi board structure was considered compact. The newer designs use more modern techniques and are thinner. However, they all fit in the standard doepfer racks. I have never had a problem getting a Doepfer module, old or ne...

There have been many threads on the MN topic over the past few years. From what I understand, the MN pots are reliable quality components, they are not there to save money. I prefer pots bolted to the front panel, but I can live with the MN choices. As for faulty modules - the manufacturers are not ...
