I <3 convolution. Used Acoustic Mirror in Sound Forge for YEARS... EM wrote a great intro article on the subject around '01 which may shed some light on some of the tech-speak above. http://www.emusician.com/techniques/0768/convolution-number-nine/141880 To the OP, the only DSP/hardware I know of is...

Also, the delay (latency) is a function of your audio buffer. If you want less latency, lower your audio buffer. Great for ext MIDI sequencing, real-time playing, etc. Raise the buffer for more plugins and/or during mix-down.

Two issues when slaving a sequencer to a master clock... 1) Latency: Time from the clock signal is sent until slave device makes a noise. 2) Jitter: Variation (usually random) in the timing of the clock master clock signal or the slave clock. Latency can be usually be "fixed" by delaying audio gener...

ES-1 or 3 would work but you would need a means of powering it. I think someone modded an ES-series for 5U once? A MOTU 896 would work. Other DACs put out too low of a voltage. http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/revstate/1519194/5897/original.jpg Or if you are halfway decent with DIY, you can simply bui...

Only the ES-1 option above requires a separate DAC. The rest are lightpipe suggestions. For example: I use a small euro setup with a 828mk2 and home-brew cables. I get about 7V peak-to-peak which is good enough to track for 7 octaves and fire gates and such. IDK the other modular format voltage stan...

Not many options here... ES-3 is your best bet in euro as it's designed to be a fully compatible with the rest of your synth and the lightpipe standard. An ES-1 allows you to use any 8-ch DAC which is nice. You could always pick up a MOTU 828 or 2408 to use as a standalone converter. Voltages vary a...

Re: MIDI Sync Woes...

my audio interface (MOTU Ultralite) is USB I do have quite a cheap-ish MIDI interface: an EMU 2-in, 2-out Wait,... is the jitter just as bad when using MIDI Out on the Ultralite? :hmm: Perhaps try and test each DAW with different audio buffers/sample rates. I also highly recommend a means of genera...

Stars Of The Lid are great. I suppose anything that abstract and well, melodic is at risk of sounding New Age-y but I've always heard a sense of enormous space and isolation in their music... then again I grew up in the desert, they're from Texas, etc. Saw them in '02 around the time of Tired Sounds...

Not just local storage but make sure that modularplanner.co.uk is allowed to store at least 1MB of data (Flash Player, Ctrl-Click -> Settings). I have 4 layouts saved and it's storing ~150Kb of data.

That's freaky...

Have you installed any software since the last time it worked?

I have nothing to add other than the obvious,.. check sample rate, buffer, unplug all outs, verify power(?), restart computer.

Also I think it's curious the DAW keeps playing.

Numerology (five12.com) while not free is a must-have on OS X IMO.

Free notables:
Valhalla FreqEcho
Yohng W1 Limiter
TAL synths and efx
Soundtoys
Klingbeil Spear
Flux Bittersweet
Voxengo's free offerings

I'm sure there's more... this is just off the top of my head.

In that price range, I'd get an Alesis io26 or used MOTU 828. Both have DC-coupled outputs and can control a modular.

But honestly, the best drivers are from RME.

The Oscs in the 2RM are about as accurate as I've found in Euro... you can hear it. Even the internal exponential FM sounds sounds totally musical up to 3 o'clock. It actually reminded me of the HertzD in it's precision yet a bit more musical in the high end. And I believe @haven is right and both s...

Anyways... Interesting to hear about the XTK. Can anyone compare it to a Nord Lead in a broad sense? More x, less z sounding? I have/had/<3 both. Nord is great for "go-to" sounds. Something about the voice architecture and the oscs that makes it a joy to play. It was the first synth I got my hands ...

I have a couple of ideas... MOTU's 3.6V is bipolar so in reality you can only getting about 0 to +1.8V out of it. I would assume that this is the issue as expression pedal inputs are normally 0 to +5V right? I would grab a mulit-meter and read the CV value coming from the pedal vs what your MOTU is ...
