Re: most beautiful synthesizers

Not a bad idea. Personally though, I like the Sledge just fine as it is. It has a 70s science fiction vibe, with the Data 70 font, and those rounded plastic edges.

Re: The Future is P.I.L.

Had not heard he had gained weight so googled it...that is too bad... Anyway, love Metal Box. Have not seen the documentary, but as far as making a film, seems hard to not get something interesting just talking to those guys. They were always hilarious in interviews. Have fun.

Thrift stores are your friend. I have a fair number of cassette players/recorders and most of them I got for a few bucks at the thrift store. Yes, they still can be found there. Also, don't be afraid to get something broke if it can be had for cheap. Often they just need belts, which is a pretty eas...

I've found 2HP Switch to be good for tape and cassette loops, as well as field recordings. Gives you that cut up, concrete sound, if you want it, or can just be an easy way to control different elements in realtime. But that may not be what you're after.

I've been using Polara constantly since I got it a month or so ago. Amazing for the money. Now I may have to try the other one you have here...

They are trending at around $200 on Ebay (granted Ebay prices are jacked up), so if you got one off of Craigslist for nothing any time recently, you got very lucky. They've not been cheap for a couple years, but I suppose it depends on what you consider "cheap."

Mirage is great, would never sell mine. Like everyone says, print the command card. I have some of the factory strings floppies from Syntaur and they sound really really good, very filmic, in an 80s sort of way. The thing is built like tank, too, absurdly robust compared to nearly anything made toda...

Re: abrasive drone and drums

I haven't made a track in a while, went back to very simple sequencing with SQ-1s for drums and droning with the moogerfoogers. Got this Trogotronic box from a friend that makes cool noise textures, but I don't even know what model it is, anyone know? [video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSVUEbrnV...
