Re: Converting audio to gates?

There’s an interesting question here, but it’s not about spelling.

Re: Behringer System 55

… Here are the two CP3 and CP3A side by side for comparison. http://i.imgur.com/begxGES_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium The Behringer mixer looks to be a clone of the CP3A using opamps. The old CP3 needed a dual ganged 10k pot where the CP3A needs only a single 5k pot for final outpu...

Re: Converting audio to gates?

Both Schmidt and schmidt can be found in print. Schmitt is, as I said earlier, more popular, but Schmidt has been in use for many years. A quick google will confirm that. Re: Converting audio to gates?

Regarding parametric EQs… I think of two cases, a parametric filter as an abstract filter type, and then products that go by the name of "parametric EQ". I think the first is more well defined. It's a bandpass filter with controls for center frequency, width, and cut/boost amount. The second has a l...

Re: Converting audio to gates?

For converting an envelope to a gate, there is a circuit called a Schmidt trigger that works better than a comparator... I’m not sure which modules provide a Schmidt trigger though. Can Maths do that? I think Disting mk4 can. A Serge/CGS Triple Comparator has one. You can buy kits to roll your own ...

Re: Converting audio to gates?

Looking at schmidt trigger ICs the ones I’ve found don’t externalize the switching levels. They just feed back some of the output to the comparator input, and the hysteresis levels aren’t adjustable. For a general purpose schmidt trigger module you would really want 3 inputs, the signal and 2 thresh...

I’ll start spelling it with a t when the rest of the world starts to pronounce GIF with a soft G like the inventor intended. ;) Meanwhile the search for a Eurorack Schmidt trigger continues. There is one in the Disting Mk4... Here is an old thread... https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t...

I think a typo crept into your post. Schmitt
Both Schmitt and Schmidt are used.

Eg https://patents.google.com/patent/US6084456

But Schmitt has gained more popularity over the years I think.

Re: Filters that do not cut the bass when you turn up the res

(I know this isn’t a modular solution, but it’s interesting that the Hydrasynth has a compensated filter type (among many) that doesn’t lose low end response with higher resonance/Q.)

Re: Converting audio to gates?

For converting an envelope to a gate, there is a circuit called a Schmidt trigger that works better than a comparator. Where a comparator uses a single threshold, a Schmidt trigger has two, one for low-to-high and a different one for high-to-low. (This is sometimes called hysteresis.) It can be usef...

The knobs on those sequencer modules look ridiculously close. Unusable w/o tweezers close.
And the original on the 2500 had 10 steps not 8.

(Although 8 or 16 seems more natural.)

Re: Korg ARP 2600 availability

I don't think it'll be a war at all. The Korg 2600 is the real deal, no question. The Korg Ody and MS-20 don't really come close, but they really nailed it with the 2600. You missed the point of my post. I'm talking about a yet-to-be-officially-announced *mini* 2600 from Korg. Just as they created ...

At the moment there is only one pair of 914 FB images.. will post some more.
Cool! Thanks!

Be sure the ground to ground connection is solid. You can't just send the signal.

(FWIW…my taste would be to just get the 14 filters to 14 output jacks, and that's it. I might then add some quad VCAs. I'm not so worried about rack space.)

Re: Behringer System 55

Good analysis @KSS. In your SFAM design, how much rework of the B914 has to be done? None. Still have to see how the theory -educated guesses, really- matches up with reality, but everything points to this answer. And is part of the choice to pursue SFAM's instead of other means to the end. Please ...

Re: electronotes/musical engineer's handbook/pcc pdfs

Not sure if you will be checking back here but I'd like to say just one thing and then follow with a bit of context: Thank you! At some point in the early 70's I ordered my first Electronotes publications, and at the same time I was learning synthesis at my university on an ARP 2600. Since then I've...

Re: electronotes/musical engineer's handbook/pcc pdfs

I don't see how this is relevant. It's Bernie's copyright. He is free to do with it what he wants. The market value of Electronotes has nothing to do with it unless there is a suit and a violation goes to court. If he wanted a library to take it on as a collection he could donate it plus $5000 to pa...

Re: electronotes/musical engineer's handbook/pcc pdfs

I’m not saying this is Bernie’s motivation, but upon his death I believe the copyright would pass on to his estate just like any other property. For some that would be reason enough to protect a copyright for materials not currently in press.

Re: Using Eurorack to make a crunchy hardcore-ish guitar sound

If you are recording into a DAW I think your best bet would be to buy Helix Native. For the cost of an expensive module you will get all the guitar distortion and cabs you could want, plus a ton of effects that are good on most any sound, not just guitars. Just make a plucked and sustaining pure-ish...
