Re: Module which unexpectedly blew you away?

joranalogue compare 2 - Never knew I needed a dual comparator, but I guess I did. Great for synching with LFOs and gate control, and makes a shredding sound when you run audio through it. Also does a lot more with the logic functions which I'm still learning of new ways to use I'm curious, how do y...

The price gouging is ridiculous. Emilie has confirmed it's not a limited run. Someone should make a Reverb sale post just to warn people not to pay more than retail.

Utilities!
Mults, attenators, mixers, clock modifiers/processors, VCAs, logic, waveshapers (turn boring LFO waveforms into rhythmic patterns to open VCAs or control pitch), sample & hold (put said waveshaped LFOs into a sample & hold to generate melodies).

Re: Cure for GAS?

As far as modular goes, I GASed badly for the first 5 years, pretty much constantly swapping things in and out of my system, until I actually found an almost perfect balance of modules that made a system that I really connected with creatively. So, it does take time, and it's not purely GAS. There i...

Necro time! I got one on an amazing discount, and my unit has a +/-5V mod, so it can actually be used as a line preamp, or to add gain to my Benjolin line-level output. I've been mainly using mine as a VCA (yes it's extremely difficult to completely silence the audio but in the context of a larger l...

Re: Westlicht PER|FORMER Sequencer (DIY)

If you want to record CV from another sequencer, do I have to record that as a curve track or can I record it right into a note track? You can do both. The curve track with roughly capture the shape and set the min/max/shape of each step as you send voltage in. And then you can further edit each sh...

Re: 0-coast vs Pico System III vs Modulor114 vs Phenol vs Ants advice needed

If you can't easily get the Pittsburgh Voltage Lab, their Microvolt 3900 is excellent and don't cost a lot nowadays. Wonderful oscillator, an adsr AND a (multi-)function generator, and a very very good patchbay (has a couple of attenating and mixing utilities that other smaller units don't). I'm a b...

Re: Which old school eurorack modules don't get enough love anymore?

I miss my Quantimator with 3 dixies and a planar v1! I got out of Eurorack over 5 years ago but all these new digital modules (With microcontrollers and screens!) enticed me back in. Eurorack has never been better. The Quantimator is brilliant. Everything from Toppobrillo is good to be honest. Sham...

What's REALLY helped me stop rearranging modules (I used to love tetris-ing) were getting cases/rails with sliding nuts. Yyyyup.

Re: Westlicht PER|FORMER Sequencer (DIY)

I've only tried the Eloquencer at a store I used to work at, and also at a client's house. Thing is, as much as I used to avoid working with modules with screens, I connected with the large screen on the Performer much more than the small screen + light grid on the Eloquencer. Especially with the Cu...

Yes I thought that. Tried moving the westlicht into the main case- but still have the same noise problem. Think it’s to do with the screen, somethings not right but I don’t know what! :) Then it's probably something in the hardware. Check everything is connected nice and tight, if there are headers...

Mashing buttons..twisting knobs mindlessly.... That's a good approach and will usually lead to some neat things, but it will only take you so far, at least in my experience. If you currently have "no knowledge or skills to speak of," might an option to take the time to acquire some – from this foru...

How about getting rid of the whole "black & white" keys to start with? I think that interface puts a LOT of conceptual and visual constraints on how "mincrotonal" the keyboard can be.

Are you looking at all into Harry Partch?

Tides v2 - retrigger only at EOC for clock division?

Hi, I can't seem to find a clear discussion of this, but I've been trying to figure out whether the Tides v2 can do Maths/Falistri-type clock division where the envelope only retriggers at end of cycle and the division can be set by Frequency. I know that with a Clock input the envelope's length wil...

You want to loop? sample and then have it play different pitches with voltage control? do you need it to overdub? do you need polyphony? If you want small, a Disting EX can sample, and playback (among a load of other things). If you're limited to 60 hp, get a couple of them, Maths, a small sequencer...

Yup, sounds like a power cable plugged in the wrong way, OR the cable was made with the strip installed on the wrong side. I've had that with a Make Noise powered skiff. One cable was plugged in wrong and the thing wouldn't power up.

That 2nd photo, oof. That sucks. Also, their soldering job is not great for a fully-assembled premium module. I just started SMD a few months ago and my soldering looks like that right now, and at times more consistent. I've seen DIY builders with much cleaner work, especially considering how much t...
