Agawell gave good replies already.

His point about utilities was the main thing I was trying to get across in the thread. And he worded it well.
Thanks!!
Great post from you too - never underestimate the power of Doepfer, nor the importance of ergonomics!!

Re: The Utility Modules for Semi-Modular Synths Discussion

NP - glad I was some help!!! It might be an idea to take a look at Sound On Sound magazine's Synth Secrets series (available free online) which might help with some basics btw If I were you I wouldn't get another Nifty case I'd just get a bigger one - they work out cheaper in the long term and you c...

Re: The Utility Modules for Semi-Modular Synths Discussion

Thanks for the replies... I have a few questions... 1) Format jumbler mults. To deal with different patch connectors. Could you provide an example? I know what a mult is, but not sure I follow the format jumbler part... to convert 1/4" to 1/8" and back again https://www.modulargrid.net/e/trouby-mod...

Re: Question about Ableton/CV Tools/ES-8

First question - what computer are you using?
If it's a mac then you can use an aggregate device and still use the MOTU and the ES8 together
If not you can try ASIO4ALL or send the master outs to the ES8 and use 2 of the outs from that for monitoring purposes

Re: Fixed Filter Banks - Long-term use, same-y results?

sounds like a great idea I don't have either one of these, or anything like them, but I just took a quick look on modulargrid and tbh if I bought either a fumana, or a Bark Filter - i'd want a lot of extra modules in order to make the most of it - mixers (matrix, panning), vcas, envelope generators,...

hahaha there is no such thing as complete!! but some sort of plucked string module seems to be popular disting mk4 is always useful - and will help you make your own decisions as to what modules you need mi links and kinks are always useful as a utility starter set a quad cascading vca - you can nev...

Re: Plaits - second and subsequent note issue

I have a Doepfer ADSR module so perhaps I can adjust this to get the effect I am seeking. If the effect you are seeking is notes overlapping on the plaits - then no you'd need rings for this If the effect you are seeking is shorter notes on plaits, then maybe - try reducing the S & R to 0 or near 0...

Re: Plaits - second and subsequent note issue

it's normal behaviour the mom is basically always looking for a new note and always playing it, whereas plaits is not looking until the previous note is released if you really want to change that then the plaits firmware is on github, you can always have a go at changing it otherwise just be aware a...

do you mean diy? or patching? it's essentially just a low pass filter controlled by an envelope follower, which is following the volume of the input a simple implementation would be instrument -> Doepfer a119 Doepfer a119 audio out -> filter input Doepfer envelope out -> filter cutoff filter out -> ...

The first and second knobs (third and fourth) act as coarse/fine adjustments for offset on channel 1 (channel 2).
The answer to the question is in the question

adjust the pots so you get 0 offset on the outputs

Re: How would you fill out the rest of my rack?

Maybe some more utilities:
Kinks is always useful
Stages - as mentioned above it can do a lot - including harmonic oscillator - and can be linked for more stages
a Matrix mixer
some cheap attenuators (2hp trim) are always useful
a sequential switch
always more vcas

Re: What’s the difference between tuning and calibration?

calibration is generally related to intervals tuning is related to individual notes so if you tune an uncalibrated vco to say c2 and then play c4 then c4 will probably be out of tune if you calibrate the module correctly and repeat then c4 should be in tune calibration may differ from module to modu...

Re: Minimal modules for Intellijel 4U Palette

or go for a Tiptop Mantis - it's a lot cheaper than intellijel and you can get a "backpack" to put it in - but you do loose the 1u row

go slowly with modules - buy a few and then play until you think you know them inside out - then buy one or 2 more and repeat

yeah it does sound like it could be the power supply - I don't recognise it but someone might - there are some power supplies that only power 500mA on each rail, although these are not usually the type pictured and together with the power draw from the modules - I just checked on modulargrid to see ...
