Re: New money pit

Most expensive module I’ve ever bought, but totally worth it. And maybe less likely to lead you into a money pit since it can do so much on its own. Though I did buy an old video mixer and a Waaave Pool (a little Raspberry Pi box that processes video)- but I have no plans or desires for other video ...

Re: New money pit

Take a look at Structure- it has everything you need in one module (assuming you have some other Eurorack to send it modulation and triggers).

I’d rather mock alarmed hipsters who fear that Eurorack “going mainstream” somehow ruins everything. Weezer is OK too!

Re: 4ms Spherical Wavetable Navigator SWN

Telling people to use C1 and C3 isn’t a good idea. They probably mean 1V and 3V. Are you sure that is what you are sending?

Re: Blue Latern Stereo Sir MixAlot vs Mutant Hot Glue

I am a big Blue Lantern fan in general, but they do have a couple of modules with a ridiculous amount crammed into too small a space.

But back on topic, this is really kind of an apples vs oranges comparison.

ADDAC Marble Physics.

Clouds has literally nothing to do with PM in any way.

Re: Updated: Definitive guide to Physical Modelling modules?

FWIW, Qubit actually says Scanned is not PM. You’d certainly think it was from the terminology they use, but I guess they should know.
“ Unlike physical modeling, however, this algorithm is a means of creating new electronic sounds, not replicating acoustic instruments. ”

Re: Updated: Definitive guide to Physical Modelling modules?

I’m not referring to filters at all. End Times Quark for example- does a great “wood block”, but is very definitely not PM.

Once you start just including anything because it can make a sound that could have been done by PM, you may as well just include modules that play back wav files...

Re: Updated: Definitive guide to Physical Modelling modules?

There are analog circuits that make pretty realistic wood block sounds. But they don’t use PM to do that.

I think if you start throwing in a bunch of stuff just because of the way it sounds, you’re guide is not going to be very “definitive”.

Re: Updated: Definitive guide to physical Modelling modules?

Is there even an agreed on definition? I prefer the literal one of simulating the acoustic properties of objects. But many people include K-S. I don’t think additive synthesis fits here. How bout WMD Crucible? Intellijel mentioned a year or more ago working with AAS on another module, then I never h...

Re: Monsoon calibration?

From the parasite docs (I believe this is relevant no matter which form of the hardware it’s running on) “ calibration has been deported to startup to make room for easy mode-switching. To calibrate, hold Load/Save while turning the system on. Then, follow the instructions from the manual.” PS, if y...

Good review but he kind of skipped too fast through the granular mode. That’s kind of what I’ve been excited for. Need more examples of it.
It just doesn’t seem like there’s all that much to it, compared to something like Nebulae2.

I think you want size in the center when recording. I actually haven’t used mine in a long time (I unracked it to make room for something else), but I remember when I first got it I was having trouble because recording would stop before I told it to.

Why not Disting EX? A little more expensive but can do tons more, way more advanced as a sample player than either of those.
The Disting EX is a lot more than a little more expensive than either of these, especially a used TT One that is like $200 less.

It is indeed much more capable though.

I may have even said so earlier in the thread, but I’d gladly trade the complex waves for some assorted EG-type shapes, like different curves and combinations of attack and decay.

Re: Odessa vs SWN - Chords & Chordal Harmonies

You don’t need to touch a computer to add wavetables. Personally, I’ve been happier with the ones I’ve recorded directly into the module, compared with those I’ve made in the software. What source(s) are you typically feeding directly into the module? Voice, guitar, synths, found sounds? Mostly rec...

Re: Odessa vs SWN - Chords & Chordal Harmonies

Another plus to the SWN is that 4MS are upgrading and patching the firmware. You have stated that you really aren't chuffed about browsing wavetables on a computer program, and neither am I, but to make the SWN really sing, you will have to dig into that program. Just to clarify a couple of things-...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer Teaser

On Metropolis, “pulse count” is step length. What it does during that step (hold a gate, repeat, play one trigger then wait until next step) is a separate control.

Vector is similar. Step length is one parameter, separate from that, steps can also be repeated.
