Re: DivKid RND STEP

I’m finding the s&h performance to be pretty poor honestly. Trying to feed a 16 step sequence of pitches and hit it with random but in sync (e.i. Not Euclidean for example) gates to pick up a melody. I find the resulting pitches to sometimes be out of tune, whereas when I perform the same patch wit...

Re: DivKid RND STEP

Hey all, So I performed some tests using my Rigol O'Scope and compared them to the Mordax data. First, I highly recommend not using the voltage monitor to measure the output. The noise transients are very quick and the voltage monitor does not have that kind of bandwidth and will alias out everythin...

Re: DivKid RND STEP

Yes, some users are reporting lower output. This can be adjusted via the trimmers on the pcb. As always, I advise to be careful when turning the trimpots. Thanks for that! I'll try and adjust mine. For my uses, I actually generally find I attenuate Rnd Step's output down. Would adjusting Rnd Step's...

Re: DivKid RND STEP

Have you measured and confirmed that you are even getting the 2.5v range? There was a user on FB who was getting much less than expected voltage and it turned out their module needed calibration. SSF helped them out with instructions. I checked mine on the Mordax Data's voltage monitor. The bipolar...

Re: New SSF Entity Release - Percussion Synthesizer

Hello everyone. Is there a trick to buying a replacement panel from the manufacturer, or do any SSF dealers have any black Entity Percussion module panels in stock? My attempts to reach SSF this week were unsuccessful. Thanks. I’m sorry I wasn't able to get back to you. The answer is that I do not ...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

@analogPedagog - discussion of the ZPO's implementation seems to have taken a backseat. I'm awaiting on one arriving Monday and keen to understand the technical background in the context of this discussion. I think I understand Bernie's last post about the EN129, halting at 0 and restarting in the ...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

I'm learning so much in this thread Yes, and very much looking forward to Bernie’s answers to Ari’s questions. Ari does bring up a valid point. However, I still can’t get around this logical loophole: If the symmetry feature permits ‘true’ TZFM. Then what do we call it when the symmetry is perfectl...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

There's another analogy that might help clear this up to someone. It's basically the same as the spinning wheel analogy. Imagine you're driving a car with a throttle control that can go forward and backward. In the middle, the engine idles. Imagine you're cruising along at constant forward speed, w...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

[...] Ari, Speaking just about the ZPO - no it isn't the same thing. Its a totally different design approach than the EN129. It does show time reversals but by quite different means. Totally happy to call it TZFM-like, as we already established. Apologies for misreading your post. The two equations...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

... The sign of the modulator is always positive. That’s what the rectifier is for. That is why the frequency goes back up at the zero crossing of the modulator, at the same point that the time reversal occurs. You might want to reread my post; I explicitly account for the rectifier in my second eq...

Re: DivKid RND STEP

I’m just starting to use mine and those half-rectified outputs are a simple stroke of genius. I also wanted to complement you on the fit and finish: the entire module from face plate to PCBs is quite elegant. Thank you, was a bit of a challenge but in the end it just fit. And yeah I really liked th...

Useful range is much more correct than supersonic. I get sh*t for using the word bandwidth - in which I meant a frequency range and you use the word supersonic? If I wanted to be an ass about that I might say - What do you mean by that? Like a jet that is breaking the sound barrier? No I don't thin...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

As has been discussed at length before on this forum, the ZPO does not accomplish TZFM, full stop. TZFM means something specfic. The ZPO does not do it. Now, analogPedagog has claimed that the ZPO is capable of producing tones that are perceptually similar to the characteristic sounds of TZFM. With...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

And yes, it does do exactly what tzfm does within a specific fm bandwidth - and behaves in a crossover fashion at those boundary's and beyond. Just because somebody else said it couldn't be done doesn't make it true. It is not the same as usung a normal TZVCA with a rectifier and I think that is wh...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

it would be much better if the SSM guys actually described thoroughly just exactly what the ZPO actually does. There is nothing valid or invalid about using or not using this or that kind of circuit or concept. They can do whatever they want, and I encourage them to do so. My interest is in clarity...

Re: DIVKID/SSF RND vs SSF URA

As a novice what is the selling point of the S&H being accurate? Meaning you wont need to quantize? I am just not sure I understand how something "random" can also be accurate? Why wouldn't you want an accurate sample? Unipolar outputs aside, the 3 bipolar sample and hold circuits accept external s...

Re: DIVKID/SSF RND vs SSF URA

Figured I would chime in here because of the comparison of two SSF modules. While the RND STEP does not have some of the features of the URA, you can get a lot of the same functionality by patching RND STEP into a slew for smooth voltages and a comparator for random gates and still have more S&H out...
