Re: Module dead - WMD Chimera. Help?

Well, that is the cost of selling modules but, I have sold 5 or 6 modules that "did not work" until the buyer plugged it in correctly or used it correctly. One module, pressure points needed a few jumpers. Another had a bad power cable. Another just needed to be used correctly, and none of these had...

Re: Great Examples of Modulating Your Modulation

VCAs can be used on feedback, like for instance with Rings, feed back one of the output signals to the input through a VCA and control the VCA with an envelope. Or, feed an LFO through a VCA into one of the frequency CVs on a VCO or Filter and control that VCA with an envelope. Hmm, can we use a VCA...

If you are just choosing voices there is also the Malekko Mute 4 which sums its output into one signal.
My favorite thing about the mute 4 is it is only 3 HP.

Re: Did anyone start big and no regrets?

Agreed. I've sold 40 modules in two years and shuffled things a lot more frequently than every few months and just consider it to be part of the process of learning and fulfilling my vision. I've gotten plenty of enjoyment out of my system in those two years. I've now slowed down dramatically becau...

Re: Did anyone start big and no regrets?

I started about 45 years ago with an ever expanding PAIA. (1973)
No regrets then.
Got back into it somewhere in 2014 with Eurorack.
Within a year I had spent over 30K.
It is only the amount of money that I regret.

Re: My 7U case; help me find the right 1U modules!

VCAs in 1U are a great way to go.
Intellijel format has an 8 hp Dual VCA that is a great use of space.
Of course VCAs are probably easy to DIY.

Every time I try to use the gate buss, all kinds of modules start doing things I didn't expect.
I can't believe how many different modules are in some way connected to the gate or CV busses.

Re: How important is having a Pamela's New Workout in your system and are there alternatives?

Seems like there are a lot of clock source alternatives. Just look at the “clock generator” category on modulargrid. It just feels like Pam’s is the best overall. Personally, having a clock source is pretty critical, but it depends on what kind of rack one is building. Don't forget to also look at ...

I was using homemade adapter cables straight into a (bleh..Beh) Xenyx 1202, but it somehow burned out in only 5 or 6 months. Then I got a soundcraft signature 10 mixer, and that did not totally die for about a year  . I was going right from various modules to the mixers with homemade adapter ca...

Re: Individual module....dedicated power switch ?

If anyone makes a power switch module, just make sure that both the plus and minus 12 are on or off at the same time. Both rails need to be switched by a single multi pole switch. Some modules have components, specifically the cool audio V2164 chip among others that will burn out if you have minus 1...

I would say Rene 1 and my favorite oscillator, Braids. I bought 2 Braids a long time ago. Well, it was only five years ago but it seems so long ago. Seeming long ago is possibly the reason people want the new, the bright and shiny. I must be a luddite for having things like Quantimator, Trigger Riot...

Uh, Rings into Clouds  . I don't like Clouds as an end of chain effect. It can be very useful in the middle of a patch. IE...Processing just one (or two) voice(s) in the patch. I believe that when people say they don't get along with Clouds, they are using it as an end of chain effect. Using it...

No love for the good ol' Doepfer A-118? - Two noise outs and a fairly versatile random out - Bottom of top case, 2nd to the left (bottom left of top case) And that was in 2017 8-) Oh look, Rings right above Clouds Or Rings into Elements, then into Clouds  And what is to the right of Wogglebug?...

Also Pulplogic RND, 2HP RND (V1 and V2) and 2HP TM. Synthrotek RND, Wogglebug, Ladik R-120 and Ladik S-610 and S-620. Plus about 6 o...

I just found a number of patch cables where I had soldered a 1N4001 signal diode into the plug.
I am not sure what kind of situations I can create by using these in a patch.
But maybe I am going to find out.

In watching the demo, it seems to me the control scheme is great.
The filters themselves are just OK. (at least when one filter is used singly)
Must be lots of crossfaders in it.

Re: How much load can a buffered mult handle?

Ideally you should only use one multiple output per destination. Not because of current rating, but to keep the destinations isolated from one another. Current wise, I would say typically several destinations could be served by a typical buffered mult without pulling too much current. But, the addin...

Re: Curious: what things preferable in analogue modules

For me the most important thing to be analog, is the controls. Using a weird little screen (Distings etc...) or pots that choose different voices or effects, that should be rotary switches, just doesn't seem right. Pots should change something in a smooth, analog like way and not choose an algorithm...

Mostly Braids, which I still like more than Plaits.
I saw demos of them on the internet and then, down the rabbit hole.
