Re: Forum Upgrade going on NOW

Looks like my rollback approach missed some things. Everything in the database is up to date, but attachments uploaded since the last snapshot are gone and unfortunately I don't think they'll be recoverable. Complete oversight on my part. I'm sorry. But I've updated my backup and restore scripts so ...

Re: Forum Upgrade going on NOW

We're rolled back to the pre-upgrade snapshot. There are some critical plugin comparability issues we'll need to fix before moving forward.

Please resume your regular wiggling.

Forum Upgrade going on NOW

The upgrade to PhpBB3.3 is starting now.

The forum may be periodically unavailable over the next hour, and any posts or PMs made during this time may be lost if we roll back.

Planned Downtime - March 29th - Upgrade testing

Heads up; I'll be testing the upgrade of the forums to version 3.3.0 at 10pm Eastern time on Sunday, March 29th. I'll post on Twitter and post a site-wide announcement while running this testing. It'll involve some downtime while the upgrade itself runs, and I may roll back the upgrade afterwards, s...

Re: Site Migration Completed

The last "new post" indicated for that thread but not showing up was made by Karl_Joseph. So it seems as if posts are regularly getting lost since the migration. I've had a few reports of this since the migration. Most couldn't be pointed out, but a few I did trace down two of them to problems with...

Re: Site Migration Completed

I apparently can't use BBCode to link to that (though it may link automatically) because BBCode doesn't work here (probably per-forum config?). There are a lot of technical things like that remaining to be resolved and it'd be wise to resolve them before even looking at contentious cultural proposa...

Re: Site Migration Completed

For "Avatars on the left" the CSS part could be as easy as this: .postprofile { border-width: 0 1px 0 0; float: left; } .postbody { float: right; } I've only tried this with Firefox's Element Inspector but at first glance it seems to do the job. The question maybe is how to make this individually s...

Re: Site Migration Completed

Flatscan: just wanted to say that after nearly two months to acclimatise to the new look and system, I love what you've done. The forum is much more usable and the layout is clear and easy to navigate. Even avatars on the right looks normal to me now! Thanks for doing a great job. I appreciate hear...

Planned Outage - January 30th

Expect a bit of downtime tomorrow; Our host is running some maintenance that will require rebooting the Server. I don't expect any issues - and the site should come back online automatically - but I'll be watching it all the same. Full quote from our host provide: Event Summary: Toronto Scheduled Ma...

I've lowered the logged in user search time limit to just a few seconds. Hopefully that will help and not murder the server.

Re: Site Migration Completed

Often I get a 'Search not available. Try again in -x- seconds' message. How frequently are you trying to to search? The server is set to limit searches to once every 10 seconds for logged in users, or once every 30 seconds for guests. These are the defaults, and seemed reasonable to me. The Disable...

Re: Site Migration Completed

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to raise this, but the availability of the Search function is limited now. Is this a byproduct of making it available to non-members (you used to have to login to use it), or is there some other reason? Could you elaborate? I believe the search algorithm change...

Re: 0 post users read this

That is odd. I ran the Resync Post Count operation and that user is still showing zero posts.
But clicking on the zero does shoe his one post.

I'll take a look at the DB and see if I can find out what is stuck

Re: Site Migration Completed

Yeah, recovering lost posts and PMs is far and above the hardest par tof the migration, and something I need to get totally incredibly right. I have them now in a separate database, and upgraded to the same schema, but all the IDs are out of sequence now so a straight insert would either overwrite e...

Re: Pls Read: UploadPic vs Image Attachment

Long story short; yes. PHPBB 3.2 adds a lot of media embedding options, as you've seen, but did away with the image upload. I just tried to install an extension that re-enabled it, but that broke everything in a bad way. So that's gone now. The only other such extension I see is Image Upload which a...

Patreon Re-Launched!

As most of you know, this site had been supported by Patreon donations in the past. This had to be stopped with Mike's passing as we couldn't reliably get at those funds, and the site's finances have been on shaky ground every since, covered by a small group of very dedicated Wigglers. Today, I'm ha...

Not a request but a strong suggestion to look at your PHP config: the session ID is showing up in the URL, which is a gaping security hole for users who copy+ paste links.

Nice work getting the forum ported!
What pages are you getting this on?
Are you using HTTPS? www subdomain?

Re: Site Migration Completed

Would it be possible for the top level view of all the forums to show the date and poster of the most recent post, the same way that the individual forums do? This would be really useful (at least to me) for forums I have interest in but that don't get a lot of activity. There's a "Recent Forums" s...
