Re: What software for recording purposes?

Audacity should be fine if you are just looking for some simple 1 or 2 channel recording.

What platform are you on?

Ms20 is great. I would also consider the arturia matrixbrute if I was going for a premium mono. You should be able to find one in your price range.

That is an impressive use of the vortex. Well done! I have used the Lexicon Vortex extensively over the last 20 years for my music and sound design and have never had any problems. Would love to know how the encoders could be repaired if the problem should arise. Also, here is a video of the Vortex ...

Akai mpc might be a good option. Mpc One or the live or the live 2. Live 2 would be cool for the battery and speakers.

Alesia ions are hard to beat IMHO.

Nords and access viruses are great

Waldorf q or micro q is worth looking at. Micro q has multi purpose knobs but editing isn’t bad

Re: Inexpensive mic pre with optical out?

I saw some completed eBay listings that were around $500 and included the digital board if used is an option and if you can wait. That card is spendy new! I thought it was a couple hundred. Not closer to 500... The Focusrite ISA One looks cool, but with the cost of the A/D board factored in its near...

Re: Inexpensive mic pre with optical out?

Yeah. The board is optional. Would need to either pick up a used one with the digital board or one without and then add it. I'm not advocating for any specific product here, but careful on the Focusrite if the budget is $500 and you want optical output. The AD converter is an optional add on and cos...

Might be able to get a zoom f4 for $300 used which gets great reviews

This is a great forum to do research. Just realize that most folks there are using their machine for live taping.

I’ve used it before when traveling and it travels well

Other thing I have used when traveling is the korg volca modular.

Re: Good synth to pair with a Digitakt?

Blofeld was my original thought as well when reading the requirements. Blofeld's a good contender for compact and powerful, though when I had one I personally didn't enjoy the interface and I don't normally have a problem with well-designed menu based interfaces. The Audiothingies Micromonsta could ...

Re: Sampler that streams from disk or large ROM

What kind of odd behavior has you seen with a 1 gig chip? Roland mv8800 can be upgraded to 1 gig of ram so that should work. Definitely not small though. Max RAM on the MV series is 512M, any more and you’ll get odd behavior. The bus between the processor and wave RAM is 29 bits wide. I’ve been spen...
