Despite (still) being on the off-ramp of modular synthesis ATM, I have thought that if I ever do manage to get back in a 12 space Modcan is mighty attractive. Were I doing it I would go with: 70b - Triple VCO 68b - Matrix Filter 31b - 4VCA 60b - QuadEG 07b - Noise/S&H/Ring (Soooo much I like to do w...

What is your initial constraint; space or money? IMHO a pair of Q960s each with a 963 trigger bus, a 962 and a moon 564 and then the .com quantizer pair of modules is also an awful lot of bang for the buck.

Even with the limited voltage control on the Boss DD-20 I could do some pretty cool syncopated effects - with this monster the sky is the limit.

Synth of Doom

I picked up this cabinet several years ago and am now getting out of the whole modular gig. I realize it is not portable, but if it interests you or anyone else send me a PM and we can talk price. http://www.hotrodmotm.com/distribute_sod.htm http://www.hotrodmotm.com/mysynth.htm I also have several ...

And, it just so happens I have a pair of them for sale! PM me if interested.

I happen to have a couple of MFOS dual lin/log VCAs for sale! (Please PM me if interested.) As a 'final' VCA in a patch I really prefer having 2 CV ins with attenuation on the 2nd one. For VCAs earlier in a patch (vibrato, PWM, sound source mixing, filter mixing etc.) I feel you can generally live w...

Buchla 282c clone is among the better examples of a VCA having a distinct sound. (When used in VCA mode...) Where do you need VCAs?!? 1) Between each sound source output (VCOs, noise, ring, etc.) and it's mixer channel. 2) Between each filter output and it's mixer channel. 3) Between each LFO and it...

PM sent to original poster. While it is not really a huge hassle to mix MOTM and MU modules, it is also not as easy as sticking with just one IF you can get what you want out of it. The Buchla 282c Clone is pricey for a VCA until you consider everything else you can do with it and how unique it soun...

I just got a dotcom Q119 Sequencer, Quantizer and Quantizer Aid, and a clock divider, Moon 554! I had about 40 MU of stuff before I did that, and got by on MIDI sequencing tricks, but I don't know how typical this is. Depends on your goals, for sure. Do you want to play your own solo parts, or do s...

I personally dislike the Q107 Dotcom Variable State Filter, but other people love it. You can adjust a jumper on the PCB and try out a different edgier resonant response. If you aren't crazy about the sound this module is the one I would ditch first. It is always interesting to read about folks who...

And the thing i read most here is: :vcas: :hmm: Even in a relatively modest system like this there are a number of things you can do with that 2nd VCA. Use one of your 3 VCOs as an LFO through that VCA and mult off either t...

Had to sell mine, along with everything else being up for grabs, but my Grove Dual VC-LFO was one of my favorite modules. The wiggler who bought it from me also picked up a couple of EGs to go with it which is how I used it most of the time.

You really should also look at the Encore UEG. I have both (though hopefully not much longer...) and use them in very different ways and both can do things the other cannot. Also, shameless plug, I happen to be selling both my UEG and 511c along with all the rest of my rig at this time if any are in...

If you just want trig/gate summing then the Q961 is reasonably priced and being able to vary length on 6 of the 12 inputs can be very handy. Just sold mine, but I do still have two 963s on offer if you want to go the traditional route! (Both of my Q960s sold without their Q963 which to me seemed odd...

I have really liked mine; it has been the primary filter EG in a LOT of patches. At the same time, given the price I would probably take a UEG over it 4 times out of 5; if the UEG range pots weren't so sensitive that would probably even be 9 times in 10. Shameless plug - my whole rig is on the aucti...

The 730 remains my fantasy divider but it has its own deal-breaking issues to me. (My opinion, someone out there might disagree.) I'd buy one the day Paul revises the software. Still looking for 2 voices in 22U? In any case I guess it all depends on what you call a voice. IMHO a 'full' voice has ~ 3 sound source VCOs, noise, S&H, 3+mixers, 2 filters, 7 EGs, 6 VCAs, a pair of full feature VCLFOs, 1 or 2 utility LFOs, distributor, panning, 2 slew, utility module for offset/i...

Harrumph... There is a lot more to 3" vs. 5" to and a lot more than just perceived (or possibly real) sound quality differences between the two. I am not trying to sound too much like an old duffer, but a few us who have been patching for ~10 or more years now on occasion wish for a bit more standar...
