Re: Will I miss Maths?

I’ve said many times, on this forum, that Maths is too big and too expensive to be used only as a ”LFO and/or AD envelope”. I don't get this. If you have the room in your case it's not too big, and Maths is incredibly ergonomic—which adds it's own value. I wouldn't want it any smaller. As for the p...

Re: BEST VCF at the moment ??

^DINsync SARA sounds unbelievably good; BUT....the lack of onboard attenuators make it a pain to use unless you park something like a shades on either (both!) sides of it. Also agree that both the VCFQ AND VCFS from R*S sound unreal. Important to be aware that they clip at 5v though...most stuff ne...

Re: BEST VCF at the moment ??

Love this thread; these questions need to be revisited from time to time. I have three quite different filters in my rack at the moment: DynSinc SARA VCF: this is a buttery smooth state variabe filter that can also act as two separate filters. It takes a bit of getting to know it, but if you like it...

Re: Today my small discovery was...

If you modulate a filter cutoff frequency (on, say, a square or saw wave input) with the audio waveform of the drum module I imagine you'd get some vocoder-y drum sound. Gotta try this!

Re: DivKid Mutes

Thanks for the quick confirmation. I know of plenty of passive circuits which utilize vactrols, so I don't think that's a hard reason, but it's good to know this absolutely requires power. Interesting. Vactrols use light, which require power, so I'm curious about how a passive circuit with vactrols...

Well, it's very difficult to respond to your previous message. Was it sarcasm? Was it self-deprecating humor? Remember Poe's law on the internet: we can't hear your intonation.

To keep a thread going you want to phrase your point constructively, and in such a way that it invites response.

Re: Today my small discovery was...

For people with a bit more electronic knowledge, this is likely an obvious thing, but: Today I discovered that it does indeed matter what way I go through a passive attenuator. I was sure that input and output are swappable, and to some extent they are. Only, the curve of the potmeter is all wrong,...

Re: Today my small discovery was...

What? The pots work the same way as before, as long as you place the knobs correctly. Is that what you're saying? They still rotate the same way, obviously, but "positionally" or for a particular setting the L/R is flipped from the more usual "left is low, right is high" mentality. So like if you h...

Re: Today my small discovery was...

You can "create" a 4 step sequencer with a clock divider and a double attenuverter+mixer, patched my falistri and 321 and created a primitive step sequencer like that today. Big limitations but it was fun to try Next try four square wave LFOs into a mixer as a sequencer If you have a Batumi you can...

Re: Today my small discovery was...

Small patching discovery of how you can get a lot of melodic variation with just two knobs: Mix two CV sequences (for example in channels 2 and 3 of Maths), and send the result via a quantizer to pitch in of an oscillator. One sequence is mildly varying, while the other has more voltage outliers. Th...

Re: Sloth Chaos PCBs & Panels available

If the components fit on the PCB and the pins match the connections to the patch cable you should be OK. Check this with your multimeter.

Re: what to get next

I think Maths is perfectly fine in 84 hp. Sure, you can try to cram in as much functionality and then Maths' 20 hp is suboptimal. But if you want immediacy it may be more beneficial to think of 84 hp as one voice, possibly with a complex or dual oscillator. Then you have the space to include modules...

Re: Eurorack Drum Machine

Setting up meaningful velocity events, swing, and microtiming in the eurorack world is so cumbersome. Things are getting easier as modules become more "Macro" and self-contained collections of features. That said -- modular is great for generating happy accidents. But... this is exactly the same fo...

Re: Eurorack Drum Machine

I like Varigate 8+ for this, but it doesn't work well as a standalone drum sequencer due to the lack of swing. Hm? You can create swing with the delay function (on every other step). Cumbersome but it works. Yes, I know. But I don't consider that a practical option. I have tried that maybe once.

Re: Which Iteritas to beginn with?

LI creates a very wide variety of rich overtones, and for me there are many sweet spots. I use it for bass by sending it through a nice LPF. My filter of choice for this is the Random*Source variable slope filter. It's not very resonant, but you can make the cutoff very shallow to get wonderful grow...

Re: Resettable LFO options

I checked Ladik, and I'm surprised they don't do an LFO with a reset.

Also consider regular oscillators with LFO mode and a hard sync option. I believe a trigger into the hard sync will reset the cycle.
