I was wondering where I can find more good apps, are there websites which do reviews/discussion specifically for iphone. I have found a few on google, but I think I haven't came across one which isn't sponsored. Discchord Is my go-to for iOS music news. The editor pays for his hosting and things th...

Another +1 for the Massey book. Don’t be put off that it has “DX-7” in the title.

I got a free copy of Wavelab LE with a digital recorder, and use it frequently for basic audio editing — trimming, fades, and simple work with VST plugins, as well as file conversion. The UI is a little wonky, but I like it better than Audacity (although I thin anything I’m doing I could probably do...

I am so on the fence about this as well. Can anyone comment on how effective the iPad <-> Desktop workflow is? I plink some at Cubasis on the iPad when I’m on business trips, and the idea of moving back and forth between the iPad and my desktop is tempting; I might actually do more than just little ...

I sometimes have the feeling that people who are really active on youtube/instagram whatever tend to release music that feels a bit rushed. The song is a basic idea that is repeated and thats it. Guilty as charged! It's part of why I'm trying hard not to even think about offering anything I do on a...

Another question/angle on the portable recorder question

I have two portable recorders, and they both work reasonably well for differeint things. On my desk I have a little Zoom, which I have cabled to my Lyra, and use it for recording whatever messing around I do (I typically use the Lyra as the last in my audio chain, being without a good mixer). I carr...

For versatility, I suppose an iPad is the way to go. Pick a couple of apps like Cubasis and Gadget and you can do an awful lot. Throw in a Kong Nano keys Studio if you want buttons. I still tend to reach for the OP-1 when I pack for a longer trip though. Although since I got the OP-Z, for things lik...

Giving the ol' Octatrack a try, again. Kill me. Actually I think I might succeed this time. I mean, I have more patience to watch video tutorials. And I quit drinking since I last had it here. That ought to account for something. Good luck! Loving mine. Tutorials really help. I find picking a parti...

Octatrack Mk II. Absolutely loving it. I can see it’s going to take a while to learn to play well though. Very nice machine, though I went with the Rytm mkII instead. I just realized I'd be using it more for percussive type stuff and the Rytm is easier to use. The Octatrack can do a lot more though...

I finally broke down and got one. When I first rediscovered electronic music stuff about five years ago, I wanted one of the original ones, but realized I’d have no idea how to even approach it as an instrument, and what I knew about samplers was from about 1986. I got a bonus from work that made it...

I may be the lone dissenting voice here. I’ve got an OP-1, and I love the thing. It’s been to three continents with me, and is the first thing that goes in my bag when I travel. If it disappeared, I’d be willing to replace it at the new price — for me it’s been that good. The way I see it, they’ve h...

My wife does that with our Google Hime Max. A week after I brought it home I got home and she pointed at it and proudly said, 'It knows Chopin!!'. She won't play music on her phone but loves the thing. It sounds pretty good, too.
