Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?

Paul Hegarty has some interesting ideas on the appeal of noise in his books and papers... short version here via Rosa Menkman - http://rosa-menkman.blogspot.com/2010/09/why-like-noise-by-paul-hegarty.html?m=1 Also, here's a free (digital) book published by Huddersfield Uni on 'Noise in and as Music'...

Re: Case Recommendations for Serge Systems

Not shallow (something like 22cm in the base, from memory), but this was only £41!! It's a Gorilla DJ GC-TT, sturdy enough for my needs, keeps it protected in the car or for some light travelling on trains, but I'll admit I'm a bit worried about the latches. As the base is much deeper than I need, I...

Re: What is your favorite notch filter and why?

After many years I still love my 106-5 SEM filter because it's great to dial in a little bit of high frequency fizz into a mostly lowpassed signal for a bit of ear candy... and yes when you start sweeping the cutoff it's super phaser-ish magic! From a sound design perspective, I use notch filters a ...

Current lineup for banana action in my studio (office)... Had to use LX tape to mount RS modules since mismatch with holes in the STS boat they are (currently) housed in, plus overall width is a few mm too wide, so slight ridge in middle. Not ready to take file to either case or modules yet - also n...

I've got a 1202 and an 802 * No problems with either in terms of going in directly... but what I will note is that if I'm using my Euro alongside quieter gear (e.g. my Nord MicroModulars) then gain staging/matching can sometimes be an issue, so have sometimes attenuated my Euro ins a bit with a pad ...

That was my go to soundtrack for a couple years of living on Ullswater in the early 90s and is full of deep and dubby technoid Cthulu vibes!

Bought a used quadslope/creature m-panel combo some years ago and love it. Slowly expanded with some R*S 4x4 modules for a bit more Serge flavour (e.g. NTO, VCM, VCFS). I've one more space for a 4*4 module which ideally will be something 'boring' but useful (I really hope they release the active mix...

Re: Performing: Which way to face?

Have performed 4 times now, and have my first proper gig at the end of April and am still unsure about which way to face? Options are: - facing the audience so you can see them and vice versa - back to them, so they can see you interacting with the system - side on, so they can see you playing, and...

My understanding of that image is that the output of the filter is mixed back into the input via the second vca as an audio feedback loop, so you'll need a mixer going into filter input or a filter with more than one audio input.

Yes, that's right, VCO 1 out into VCA, VCO 2 out int VCA cv input will give you AM sidebands

^ Not sure I'd describe it as a tune (or track) - It was just intented to document what the patch does - but thanks! If you look at the image you should be able to trace the various feedback paths. Looking at it again I'm not actually crossmodulating the fm inputs of the two oscs. The first oscillat...

This is heresy (probably), but I *really* don't like the sound of the resonance on the VCFQ Not an heresy, all is matter of taste anyway. May I ask which VCFQ you are using?
