Re: Buchla Serge mixing

wouldnt a MArF play better with a serge set⬆️? the 1V switches seem a lot more useful in a 1V/oct synth than a 1.2V/oct synth to me , never quite figured out the idea there

Re: Patch trick: turn your Maths into a complex formant oscillator like Mangrove

maybe i'm thinking of something else, but isn't this taking advantage of the maths division functionality at audio rate? like in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L10PjCdSJqA i think the idea here is to clock maths at rates approximately in time with the envelopes its making, rather than ...

Re: Matrix mixer use and abuse

simple cv routing , shines on drones where minor changes to tuning can be made to multiple oscillators with side by side knobs, or to send kbd cv & mix modulations in different amounts crazy cv routing, feeding a channel back in directly & feeding another thru a wavefolder or filter audio routing, o...

the roland sp-404sx is a useful phrase sampler & fun fx box. i think the current model has some special aira connextion & different led colors but is otherwise the same. the fx aint the very best but theyre all v playable and work well on all sorts of syntheticn& wide ranged sounds, which can freak ...

Re: KORG miniKORG 700FS

There is a specific button that says "Panel"; to me that indicates that the panel controls only work in that mode. When writing the current settings to a preset the control values are scanned exactly once. I had a Yamaha CS-15D (still miss it  ) and that had a number of presets for each of the...

Re: KORG miniKORG 700FS

I think the reason the price is high are the patch memories and all the AD&DA converters required to do that. I love the traveler filter on this generation of Korgs. im pretty sure they only need one ADC to monitor the panel & just mux the different controls to it. its how they did it on tthe polys...

Re: Thoughts on my rack

logic modules can waste space in a small to medium rack; mixers , vcas, & atten/offsets can perform OR, AND & NOT operations, and also do their regular jobs. so a couple quadratts & vcas might take out the whole flock with only a handful of stones :miley:

Re: using a inverter,scale,offset utility to transform a s trigger to a v trigger

idk if logical inversion would work but it seems like it should. the right channel of maths gives the logical inverse of a gate signal if you dial it as fast as it goes & take the EOC out theres quite a few other modules that will do this in a less fiddly way than an inverting & offsetting mixer, bu...

Ha ha! Really appreciate your reply! I only have one VCA, a Veils, and have deliberately hedged on buying more until I understand their function more fully. relaxation core just means that the oscillator core works off charging and discharging a capacitor, so triangle core & saw core both meet the criteria. sine wave oscillators & square wave oscillators dont, hth

if you're looking for disguising filth, the plague bearer cannot be beaten. the switch with 3 different gain staging settings is really fun to explore and has great amount of CV options. trshmster is wonderful, but it's a bandpass filter. it can sort of sound like a lowpass, but i'd look elsewhere ...

if you e got a voltage controlled envelope you could just heavily modulate the attack time. sending 10V to rise on maths will slow it ⬇️ to a craaaaaawl , i find it sufficient when i need an AHAD envelope

the pittsburgh unit is a function generator like maths or the DUSG , rather than a dedicated envelope follower, which would have much more limited range of slew time. its not a simple plug & play because youll hafta tune it, but its a much more versatile use of your racks HP than a dedicated envelop...

Re: Why do I need an envelope follower?

feedback patching is where they shine most when staying solely in the rack ime, but they also let outside gear influence the modular in many fun and interesting ways. patch one to vco pitch then send that vco and the audio being followed to a ring modulator, for instance I am interested in doing th...
