Re: Your Favorite Acquisitions in 2020
Yeah, going to be semi-lame and say my new pup. Got him right before lockdown in March, and I still feel so lucky to have brought him home. My older dog passed away right before Christmas 2019, so the loss, plus empty house, plus crazy world would have been too much to bear. Very thankful I got the ...

That sure sounds pretty special. Definitely worth the experimentation. I’d love to hear how you progress and work with the test equipment.

Was going to say, for a quality two-channel EQ, that's not too bad.dubonaire wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 4:22 pmIt’s stereo though, so it’s not it’s out of the ball park more expensive than many other EQs.thevegasnerve wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 12:14 pmyeah, not surprised... : (

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production
Oh, also, the 511... Yeah, freaking love it. I've had that for a while now and I feel like it grows with me. I of course cranked up the texture and was using different silk modes in the beginning, and I think it sounded great, but as time went on and I wanted a cleaner vocal, the high pass and optio...

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production
If we're talking color boxes Nice boxed lunch! How're you liking the 511. I love the sweeping highpass filter on that thing. That's a beautiful mic pre. Curious about your use of the 545! I thought that was used for live settings to remove feedback from the center microphone. But is there a studio ...

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production
I guess while we're discussing this it might be worth commenting on the most bang for the buck cases. Or chassis? Is that what they're called? I went with the Lindell 510 Power MK II. Seemed to be a reasonable investment but maybe folks here know better. The Lindell's are great bang for the buck, f...

If we're talking color boxes, I cannot recommend the XF Tubes enough. They're amazing, amazing, amazing modules. Almost, how did I live without these, sort of things for coloring and giving life to digital signals. Analog modeled tube simulators with just so many options, and they sound amazing. Si...

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production
Dual Vandergraph is definitely cool looking. Would love to give that one a try. My problem is always wanting more free slots. I have 15 slots between a few chassis, but I’m itching now to upgrade to a Cranborne Audio 500ADAT, mostly to ADAT my way to better 500 series routing, but it’s not cheap. N...

Re: 500 Series: Compressors and EQ’s for Electronic Music Production
500 series compressor choices are sort of endless. What type are you looking for? FET, VCA, vari-mu, optical? There are some amazing choices, but depending on what you are looking for, some better than others. Personally, I really like the flexibility of the Neve 543, and the 542 is a cool take on t...

Re: Synth reductionism..or less is less
But that's a big subjective assumption. For you the gear may not be the object but for others the gear may be the whole point of their interest. Owning gear to produce music has no more intrinsic value or merit than owning gear just cause the gear interests you on some level. Some people like to ow...

Re: Still no demos with CXM 1978 and analog synths?
I think the price is coloring the demos for me. As reverbs go, it's not horribly expensive, but in this form factor it seems excessive and I agree that the motorized faders are cool, but completely unnecessary. It's a good sounding reverb, but I'm not really hearing anything too special that makes m...

Re: transitioning to Apple silicon
It might be a little too early to upgrade to Silicone. Especially if you have tools you rely on that you know aren't going to be getting upgraded to native Silicone apps soon. NI will, for sure, Reaper will, for sure, but I'm guessing for a while your VSTs are going to be a mix of things that work a...

I would probably argue that Tone tweakers pricing is WAY more over the top. I’m not sure if that’s because they ship everything from Japan or not, but bloody hell.. 5 k for a Juno 106. yeah, no. Tone Tweakers is in NY, though :D I'm 50/50 on places like Tone Tweakers, SoundGas, RetroGearShop. For t...

Oh man that is really cool. Any thought to a limited run for sale? Yeah I think so. I'm building a few more for some people who asked for them after I posted the video so that'll be a chance to refine it a bit, then I'll maybe do a small run. Wow. Cool. That might be something I'd be interested in,...

He had a pair of H4000s and an H3000 D/SE for $1250 each. Cheapest by a lot on Reverb and I think a very good price for an Eventide of that era. His gear is definitely priced to sell, and looks to be very well maintained.

I love it. Great design, and definitely the right kind of quirky. How do the magnets work in practice? Did you find they were actually erasing/degrading the loop? The tracks on Bandcamp are very nice. Definitely a special build. Its new owner is lucky to have it.

Re: Experience with "Rackstuds" for synth/studio rack?
I've used these with no issues. The heaviest piece of gear I have rackmounted is about 25lbs and these hold it in securely. Just check the thickness of your rack rails to make sure you buy the right ones. I believe the red is for rails upto 2.2mm thick and the purple is for rails 2.7-3.2mm thick. T...

Re: Experience with "Rackstuds" for synth/studio rack?
No experience, but if they’d hold a server rack I can’t see how they’d fail on music equipment. Might be a bit gentler on the mounting holes/faceplate as well, especially hand tightened. If you try them and they work well, I’d love to know.
