Re: Multimeter suggestions?

Bumping this thread for 2020... looks like Fluke prices have been on the up and up, and mine died a while ago. I'm looking for a general-purpose handheld for basic DIY work, I'll probably get a 40000 count bench unit down the line, but would like something reasonably reliable in a smaller form facto...

Re: Xaoc Zadar, Quadruple Envelope Generator + Nin expander

Anyone had substantial enough experience with Nin to say whether they use it regularly? Received a 'complimentary' Nin with my purchase of Zadar, however my system is nearly maxed out! Do you find yourself using those secondary CV's quite a bit or is it just wasted hp? I don't use my nin on every p...

Re: NAMM 2020 megathread

The NAMM map seems to indicate that 2ms, Qu-BIt, amd Electro-Smith will be there. Alex4 Distribution claims they are representing "ACL, AJH Synth, Analogue Systems, Animal Factory, Birdkids, Cwejman, Doepfer, E-RM, Endorphin.es, Eowave, Flame, Frap Tools, Meng Qi, TouellSkouarn, UDO Audio, Verbos E...

Curious if anyone might know when these might be back in stock at Control or Perfect Circuit... would this be contingent on a 2nd production run?

If I need to use closed back, I do like the Focal professional series of headphones, although there was a widespread issue with their construction in their original run (my pair never got the cracked headband others did). I think they've fixed that by now, but search around just in case. They're mor...

Ts-L is great sounding but yes, very cramped, so that limits some of the kinds of tactile control you might otherwise want to explore. Works wonderful if you have enough CV/modulation sources to animate the wavefolding and eliminate your need to physically turn the mini knobs at the bottom.

I'd say you definitely need more things to modulate all the parameters if you're opting for complex oscillators. I don't see much in the way of LFOs, unless you're using Pam's in LFO mode? And Zadar is much more fun when you send LFOs (or external envelopes) to the CV inputs.

First day with the uo_C actually in my rack, and been having fun with quantermain and the Bhairav scale, one channel is running on a turing machine thingy and the 2nd on a random bytebeats equation that sounded good. It took me a bit of time to get the hang of the holding-the-encoder-for-a-very-long...

So, in terms of audio sound (i.e. from sound sources such as synths and drum machines - would the quad VCA not do as good of a job? should I also be looking at a separate audio mixer? any you could recommend? :) I think the Intellijel does just fine (sound-wise) mixing 4 sources down to one when us...

I really like the sound/feel of the Hordijk and Blacet modules/systems, and think they're just great analog circuit implementations. But they're not radically different soundwise from, say, the better oscillators and filters for Euro.

Might be useful to include utilities that deal more with logical operations (xors etc), that would be a start at getting students to think about what they can do to CVs, rather than just doing operations to "the sound". Also, there's lots that can be done to waveforms like wavefolding, rectification...

I'm still not entirely clear what you hope to teach with this rack, perhaps you could clarify? It'd seem that while there'd be some overlap, the modules that would be most valuable for teaching the building blocks of analog synth patches (and synthesis modes such as AM, FM, PWM, wavefolding, rectifi...

I have a uo_C incoming from Tall Dog, based in western Massachusetts. He makes them with somewhat stiff pots (not a big deal since they're not really a module you need to tweak live a lot), but in general they're well made, black or silver panel colors.

The low-end Furman devices are quite literally worse than not having any surge protection or so-called "power conditioning" at all. After absorbing a few voltage surges from brownouts or whatnot, they'll neither be able to protect from surges anymore (due to the way MOV circuits handle surges by sel...

Any power conditioner /surge protector with MOVs in it (many of the Furmans included) will degrade over time —and pretty quickly, each time it catches voltage spikes. This tends to add noise into the system above not having the conditioner at all. If you really need to deal with voltage spikes due t...

About half seems to be misinformation, or at the least involves nonstandard uses of standard terms (clipping, VCA). Digital is on/off logic?
