I was worried about this too, but it's easy to wire first, then mount. You can easily work out which is which that way.

If you want to neaten the wiring after, it's no big deal.

I found you can replace almost every opamp with a TL071. The only exception I found was the one in the heart of the Ring Mod. I also replaced some 5172s with pn2222 and that also worked fine, and did a JFET swap on the OSC sync board also. I think you can find my comment about this in the V2 build ...
