Re: any cool solid state guitar amps?

A friend of mine bought a Peavey amp he had researched that was supposed to be amazing. I think it was kind of a late-90’s model that got apparently a lot of good internet reviews. I only heard it briefly, but he liked it a lot.

Re: Wiring a patchbay and mixer - cable quality

I've been using cheap cables forever. Hosa, "Audiopile", Seismic, Monoprice. They've held up well. And if something goes bad I can trash it instead of trying to fix it, because it's cheap crap. For line level signals, like synths, it matters less. It matters more for guitar-level signals. For behind...

Re: Moogfest Sub-Harmonicon - What Is It?

I pre-ordered from Sweetwater on May 21. I should get it tomorrow. So that was about 5-6 weeks. But I ordered knowing Moog was building more to resupply the world. Original estimates were mid-July, I read somewhere. Sweetwater claimed mid-June. Both those guesses turned out wrong. I used Sweetwater ...

Daniel Lanois has some cool ambient steel stuff. Also, speaking of Baltimore, look for Susan Alcorn.

Re: Linnstrument or pedal steel guitar?

Would it make sense to try to become proficient on a lap steel first or does not much technique translate between the two? There is some technique overlap, but my barrier was grasping the chordal stuff on a pedal steel with multiple levers and pedals. I personally never got there. But the basics of...

Re: Can you hear the difference between audio interface A/D converters?

I think there has been progress over 20 years. I’ve been recording music for a long time, mostly acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, mandolin etc. For years I used a digidesign 002. When I moved “up” to a Focusrite pro 40 I could hear a difference, but that difference was probably just 10 ye...

Re: Linnstrument or pedal steel guitar?

Everybody’s different, but this makes me want to give my experience: I bought a used pedal steel years ago and spent some time with it, but never had a breakthrough, personally, to where I was able to play it well. Sold it to someone else, even though it looked cool sitting around in my house! Linns...

Re: Moog Mother 32/Subharmonican/DFAM, as the center pieces of a Eurorack?

I pre-ordered one, so have not played with it. But there are outputs in the patch bay for the sequencers. That’s kinda my plan, to send those rhythms out to 5he rest of the modular stuff.

Maybe I'm confused. But using the 12-tone quantization options, any key is available... right?

My only restriction is that the building can be no taller than 2.5 m - else I need to apply for planning permission etc and that can be a pain and time consuming.
I’ve always read that a higher ceiling is desirable, so you may as well make that maximum height one of your dimensions.

Pedals? I like electroharmonix, and for super deep endless reverb Old Blood Noise Endeavors Dark Star (not cheap though)

What about desktop or rack reverbs like Alesis Wedge, Midiverb, or Lexicon LXP-1 or LXP-5?

Oh, funny. It was only 4-5 posts up, I wasn’t paying attention.

So back then 2” tape was probably only $250 a reel, easier to understand.

So I was thinking of getting some tape - maybe a 2" and just have that running all the time.

I wonder if you meant something else? Each reel of 2” tape costs over $300, and you’d be putting a new reel on every 15 minutes. So we‘re talking major label budget...

Re: What room treatment are you using?

I’m in a basement with a concrete floor. Not ideal. When my wife played drums down there you could feel the kick drum changing the air pressure in an ugly way. So on the walls, staggered, and at first reflection points I have 8 4-inch thick rigid fiberglass panels that I got used from a guy moving h...

EEF60526-EB67-4F05-95D0-3C0E3F968683.jpeg This is not actually my favorite. A showman combo with 1x15 is the fave. But this is kinda cool, a Chinese clone of a retro 18 watt Marshall. I. Built the cabinet out of scrap plywood, it’s functional but not a beauty. This amp gets the loud and snotty tone...

Re: Gift to get my girlfriend into my hobby?

My wife looks at the modular and she thinks it looks like a pain in the ass. She did get herself an ms20, and has done cool stuff with it, but she’s just not as interested as i am. She’s a drummer, that’s what she’d rather spend her time on. She’s a logical person, more than me—she’s a software deve...

Re: Variable ways to clock Rene

But I have rene v1. There is No Fun. I thought about getting rid of it, though it's one of the most expensive modules I ever bought. But now I'm committed to re-reading the manual and giving it another chance. I suspect I might be more of a "Sequencer from the the DAW" kinda guy. But also not sure a...

Werkstett then Mother32 was my entry. Now I have Eurorack, maybe 175 hp worth of stuff. But I also picked up a eowave weather drones, another semi-modular, and I really want a subharmonicon. Selling modules now, by the time SH is available I will have covered the cost. I like semi-modulars, especial...

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

So I'm really late to this thread. I'm sure it's all been saiid. Are there people who are just grabbing modules that look cool? That their friends will envy? That are the latest shit? Maybe. I'm not sure that's the main force at work here. I have over the last 4 years accumulated a bunch of stuff. R...
