Re: Favorite FX units for drum machines?

20201027_191323.jpg This is my current drum setup: Nord Drum sequenced by an EHX Clockworks, going through some foogers (currently MF-101 and MF-102) and then some delay from the Behringer VF-400. Sometimes I swap one of the foogers for the MF-103 phaser. Other boxes I've used with drums that give ...

Re: Thoughts on Euro LPGs, please?

Is the Malekko/Richter Dual Borg still available? That would be my choice. Yeah, it's a bit big (16 hp) but sounds great and it's extremely versatile.

Re: Fender Champion 600 + bass guitar

I'm telling you that have been doing this with this exact amp for long time and it's completely fine. It's not going to get very loud, but that's okay since OP is just looking to play around their apartment. It sounds fine at lower volumes and distorts really nice and fuzzy as you turn the volume u...

Re: Fender Champion 600 + bass guitar

I'm no expert but I wouldn't risk it. It doesn't sound like that little speaker is designed for bass at all. I guess you could try it at very low volumes but you probably won't get much of a bass tone from it.

Re: Four records that changed your life.

Being brutally honest, I would have to choose four records that, even thought they might not be good, they are the ones that got me into the music I like now. First, some context. I was first and foremost a computer geek. In the second half of 80s I was in my early teens and everyone listened either...

Re: Triple Glide Usage?

That sounds pretty cool to try. I wonder if I could emulate something like the THX Deep Note (where several voices start from random pitches and converge into a single chord) using my four slew limiters?

Re: Need a boring module - cv shifter

(I have DotCom, Corsynth, Moon, and Oakley LFOs, envelopes, S&H and they all are slightly different). Most of my modules were originally designed for the MU format, but I still sometimes have problems with some weak clock or trigger signal. Adding a small offset and/or 200% gain with a Q125 takes c...

Re: Need a boring module - cv shifter

I have a fairly large system (90 spaces). I have two dotcom Q125 that get a lot of use, since not all my modules have attenuators on them and sometimes I also need offset: for instance, I like the ability to add an offset to a pitch CV before quantizing, or add an offset to S&H noise that will trigg...

Re: guilty pleasures (or whatever else you want to call them)

I still love listening to some late-80s / early-90s hip-house acts, like Technotronic, Ya Kid K, Snap!, Hithouse, C+C Music Factory. Don't really feel guilty about it, but I rarely listen to it with other people around as I usually get a "really?" look from them.

Re: Best/Favorite Bassists

I like Colin Greenwood (never over the top), Flea (particularly when he doesn't go over the top) and Tim Commerford. For me, good grooves, good taste and playing for the song always beats having supersonic chops. I consider Tom Jenkinson an amazing bass player, but most of the time he's just wankeri...

Re: Autechre

Wow. What a treat that was. Unexpectedly different. Almost like Oversteps 2, in the way that it was lush, beatless, etc. Exactly my thoughts. LP5/Confield is still my favorite autechre era, but this new album was quite refreshing after the "sameness" of everything they did after Exai (not that it w...

Re: The CD/LP buying thread.

A couple weeks ago I realized I had not bought any 2020 albums, so I went on a small shopping spree to compensate. This is what I got (all CDs) - Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 4 - The Flaming Lips - American Head - Public Enemy - What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down? - Paris - Safe Space Inva...

Re: Good stereo reverb

I have the Nova Reverb and it is always connected to the outputs of my eurorack system. My chain is Eurorack->Nova Reverb->Line6 DL4. I really like the spring algorithms in the Nova; most of the time I just use the vintage spring algo. The other algorithms are also good. The Dynamix setting can lead...

Re: Eventide's Blackhole Pedal

Well, I bought it and it just arrived. Totally love it. I have plenty of decent "regular" reverbs (TC Nova Reverb, which has a great spring model, plus rack effects from Lexicon, Alesis and Zoom), but I've been wanting a "special" ambient reverb for years, and this is definitely the one. Tried it wi...

This is now in the top of my wish list. I got a Rose recently and I really like it - great sound, very versatile and intuitive (but also capable of deep editing). I've always been intrigued by the *Factor and Space boxes, and might still grab them at some point, but right now this makes more sense t...

Re: Missing Topologies in the Format

That said, I actually have a question along these lines. Maybe it's just a lack of coffee on my part, but can anyone think of an analog frequency shifter in MU format other than the COTK C1630? There's the Encore Electronics FS in MOTM format. I thought they also made it in MU but apparently not. h...

Legos for making electronic music This is exactly how I began to explain it when I did a couple of talks about it at my university. I also said that there are two types of Lego sets: the ones where you're supposed to build a specific model that is shown in the box (e.g., the Death Star, or the Batm...

Re: Help me choose a pedal

If you're in the market for a general reverb, the TC Electronic Nova Reverb is very reasonable on the used market. It is the predecessor of their Hall of Fame reverb, though it was more pricey in it's day. It runs at 12V instead of 9V, and seems to have tons of headroom, which is what brought me to...

Re: Help me choose a pedal

I don't have one but lots of people recommend the Zoom MS-70CDR as a good, economic choice for reverb and delay. Out of the stuff I have, I'm really enjoying my Eventide Rose. It's mono only but it can do an amazing range of stuff from typical delays to truly atypical delays to chorus/flanger to pse...

Has anyone got the newish Eventide Rose? I'm eyeballing a fourth delay pedal, and it will likely be this... I just ordered one and hope to have it in a couple days. I've owned the 103 for 8 years, and just recently got the 101 and 102 as I've wanted the original trio for a long time. I was able to get them for a decent price (slightly below $300 each). The 101 sounds amazing, just what one would expect from moog. I still have to try the 102 but I'm sure I won't...

These are the cheaper ones I have: Lexicon MPX-100 if you want regular reverbs that sounds good and natural. Zoom RFX-1000 if you want metallic-sounding reverbs a la 90s IDM Alesis Midiverb II if you want something you don't have to tweak at all but sounds cool TC Electronic Nova Reverb if you want ...

I certainly do but I am biased since I work for Eventide. Happy to answer any questions or direct you to any resources you may want to hear/see.
Maybe just one question.... what makes it special?
