Re: BEST VCF at the moment ??

There isn't really a "best" filter, or a dedicated "techno" filter. What sound characteristics are you looking for in a filter? Clean? Dirty? Distorted? Screaming? Liquidy?

For techno, I've used anything from my erica polivoks filter to MI Ripples - really depends on the context.

Re: Smooth Cv recorder 2017

Ardcore is more of a general use module - I'm not sure whatever program you can load into it can save CV recordings.

I can attest that Flame Quad CV recorder definitely does the job well.

Re: Which Sequencers Have This Feature?

That's good to know. However, it would be really helpful if this could work on any part of the row you are on. Like if you pressed the OK button when the cursor is on the "Table", or "Mod", or "FX", would it still preview? It will also allow you to preview the MOD output. FX and tables are more mod...

Re: Modules with finicky power requirements

I haven't had an issue with DSP2, maybe a tiny bit of noise but it's barely noticeable. I use a Konstant Lab PSU though, so I can imagine it would be worse on cheaper flying cable supplies like uZeus.

Re: Which modules instantly hooked you with their workflow? Best intuitive and good UX modules?

Those of you complaining about the Optomix strain credulity. Optomix works just like any dual VCA, it just happens to be a LPG instead, it has a strike input, and a dampening feature. There’s an Aux input that most of you probably never use. That’s it, folks! If VCAs flummox you, then stop posting ...

Re: Which modules instantly hooked you with their workflow? Best intuitive and good UX modules?

Moog Model 15 I know it's not eurorack, but that's the point. As soon as I started patching it I realised what I was missing in eurorack. There's a fluidity to patching the Model 15 that I've never experienced in eurorack, where the extra CV inputs, handy mixer, multiples and the overall layout inv...

Re: Which modules instantly hooked you with their workflow? Best intuitive and good UX modules?

Best: - MI Stages. Very very well laid out, rarely needed any manual diving at all. - MI Frames - same reason as Stages. - Doepfer modules are pretty straightforward. - Livestock electronic Felix. Very useful and very well laid out. - Nerdseq. It's very easy to pick up the basics, very fast to use d...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

Don't have a problem with clones based on expired patents. Sure, it's not original, but no issues from me there.

I have a problem with the dodgy tactics behringer is doing, which is frankly unnecessary.

Re: Your go to final VCA?

One thing to add regarding the Intellijel QuadVCA - one plus over the Mutable Veils... QuadVCA has 6dB boost switches on each channel. Very fun to drive filters with! You do realise that Veils has 2x amplification on linear, and a +20dB boost on each channel when fully exponential? +20dB is VERY ha...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

It pissed off a lot of fans of their synths, including myself. It's a shit move regardless, even if it was meant as a "joke". I defended a lot of the previous nonsense and gave the benefit of the doubt, especially since a lot of the arguments were disingenuous or just a bit shit, but not this time. ...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

Maybe it's all calculated and they were taking the risk into account? There is at least a saying in German that goes something like 'once one's reputation is ruined, one can live unconcerned' but honestly I do think it was an unnecessary bold and stupid move. OTOH hand the video Paul Kirn shared on...

I'm done defending them. The stunt they pulled made them as shady/greasy as synthrotek in my eyes. Targeting notable individuals and anti-semitism is not okay. It's petty, malicious and just dangerous. They could have easily ignored it, or actually worked with critics, either to clarify or to allevi...

That's a shame. I prefer my joysticks to stay where I leave them.

Wonder if its possible to remove the spring mechanism like you can for the original Doepfer stick?
I think the freeze function allows it to hold onto the x/y CV of that position, I think.

Re: Oscillator for "organic" instrument

Digital clipping isn't an issue as digital voice sources are monophonic in most cases, and it will always be going into an analogue mixer. If you're using it with a ribbon controller, you don't really need anything fancy anyway, as the articulation aspect of it will add the organic feel. You can go ...

Re: Oscillator for "organic" instrument

There isn't a prebaked analogue physical modelling module - usually it would have to be short noise bursts going into something like one of doepfer's BBD modules. Having a wide range of analogue and digital oscillators in my modular, they all can sound "organic" as CV allows for such subtle articula...

Non wobbly knobs, sturdy overall construction with no flexing, materials don't look like they can bend easily, labels printed clearly, not using a PCB as the front panel etc.

Re: Ugliest module, best looking one !

I wouldn't consider the likes of the furthrrrr generator confusing. I was able to grasp most of it without looking at a manual. If anything it's the closest in layout to the Buchla 259, which a lot of these complex VCOs seem to be based on. Cs-l is quite busy, so definitely agree there. It just look...

Re: Ugliest module, best looking one !

Mannequins modules look nice and clean, but there is no concept of usability. Vague labels and even vaguer manuals. I personally don't like when designers try to make modules as "wacky pandoras boxes", it just comes off as a crutch. Mannequins have one of the deepest manuals ever seen.... check out...

The tactile experience makes it infinitely more inspirational, enjoyable and fun to use. It's like playing with a box of sonic lego. Also, being on the spectrum, the array of buttons, knobs and flashy lights is REALLY calming. I spent over £13k on my modular and I don't regret it. I could easily do ...

Re: So, MI Stages or traditional ADSR? Thoughts?

I bought two to chain together. I find it immensely useful for envelopes in general. I don't find making an ADSR difficult on it at all, and you get a lot more flexibility on controlling it via CV compared to a typical envelope. It also allows you to make more exotic stuff, ranging from trapezoid ge...
