Re: Moog Eurorack Case - power bus advise

No drilling required. I bought a $5 flat bar at Home Depot, cut it to length and then put one between the metal cheek and the wooden cheek of the Moog case. Here's how it looks as a "four-tier" Moog system: http://langa.pl/random/forums/moog-60hp-skiff-hack4.jpg http://langa.pl/random/forums/moog-60...

Re: Moog Eurorack Case - power bus advise

I'm not really sure what you're asking. I'm using the Moog cases since 2016 and I've been very happy with them. Here's how a double one looks with shared power from one uZeus:

Buy a $5 metal flat bar from Home Depot, cut it to length and attach the sides of the top two Moog boats. Here's my attempt at this in 60HP: http://langa.pl/random/forums/moog-60hp-skiff-hack1.jpg And mounted on the top of a three-tier: http://langa.pl/random/forums/moog-60hp-skiff-hack2.jpg http://...

Re: DAWless Eurorack Recording -- how do you do it, recorder recommendations?

A mini solution would be a Roland go:mixer, especially if your aim is (mostly) recording your patches with a phone with good stereo audio. Then, if you decide to record to a DAW, the go:mixer will act as an audio interface when connected to your computer.

Re: How to mish-mash your mono synths into a playable poly?

I'm doing a similar thing with my two Mother-32 synthesizers. I have a script I wrote in Python that has three modes: unison fatness, duophonic, and "power chord". The first mode is mostly to allow using Mother-32 for more Minimoog-like patches. The duophonic mode is what you're asking for here: it'...

Re: Brassy timbres

Basing on a saw wave with VCF cutoff tied to the EG can get some pretty brassy sounds. Moogs are pretty good at it. The key is to control expression (e.g. the base cutoff) musically according to the phrase.

Another vote for Plankton Electronics Nutone. I don't have that module in particular but I own the KORG OD-S Overdrive pedal which is also powered by the Nutube 6P1. It's very versatile and sounds gorgeous with synths. Demo I recorded with it (interesting part starts at 3:30 if you're in a hurry): h...

Re: MOTU Ultralite Mk4 vs. ES3 over ADAT

The only thing - which is annoying - is the latency from Ableton Live. If I send a sequencer signal from live, and use a drum machine in Live, there is a delay of about 30-40 ms. I haven't figured out a better solution yet than offsetting the start of my midi clip. The track delay does not work as ...

Re: Patch idea: make the Subharmonicon stereo

The nice thing about this approach is that you still have access to the Subharmonicon sequencers through the SEQ1, SEQ1 CLK, SEQ2, and SEQ2 CLK outputs so the sequence is still programmed on the Subharmonicon. I don't use that all the time though because then you're giving up the ladder filter and t...

Re: MOTU Ultralite Mk4 vs. ES3 over ADAT

No, didn't use anything special to remove the phase inverted signal. Supposedly the inputs and outputs are meant to recognize unbalanced plugs and act accordingly. As I said, the problem was subtle and only mattered for 1v/oct. And even that was not *terrible*. But ES-3 is much better, it's designed...

Re: MOTU Ultralite Mk4 vs. ES3 over ADAT

I haven't tried any shorter cables and haven't found the source of interference. The Ultralite is a great interface. Note that the analog inputs and outputs are balanced. The noise was never a problem for audio use when balanced cables were used. For unbalanced use, the inputs and outputs are defini...

Re: MOTU Ultralite Mk4 vs. ES3 over ADAT

"ADAT signal quality is also better" -- that gives me some pause though. Is this only an issue for millivolt-critical uses like pitch CV, or should I be concerned about shit like amplitude fluctuations being imparted to LFOs and clock signals? I had noise in the DC-coupled signal. I could tune it t...

Re: MOTU Ultralite Mk4 vs. ES3 over ADAT

No, in terms of usability. I mean, sound quality is also better with ADAT but here I was talking about something else. The cables I kept connected to the MOTU had to be always connected. So I bought longish ones in case I need to reach something that is not super close to the interface. That was a s...

Re: Definitive "how to multitrack record your Eurorack"

I'm using ES-6 with a MOTU Ultralite AVB. It's just 6 tracks but I rarely fill them all up anyway. I could get two more with the ES-7 expander but never felt I need it. That goes to Ableton Live which I also treat as the definitive center of the show: it is the clock master, it drives all MIDI I'm u...

Re: MOTU Ultralite Mk4 vs. ES3 over ADAT

I would go with the ADAT. I have the MOTU Ultralite AVB, I use it with the Mac. I am grateful for this awesome interface pretty much every day. It does it all. There's been a major fuckup with the drivers early on in the Catalina days. But downloading new ones and installing over the old ones fixed ...

Re: So....when does stereo REALLY matter?

I think it's fantastic that the eurorack community is waking up to stereo. But it's more than just about panning. Mix in stereo Stereo or quad is literally just about outs and how they are panned. I'll not mince words and say that having your entire arrangement in mono is just weak . It's limiting a...

Don't know maybe a personal thing but fuzz just blurs what should be a hard and heavy sound already without really bringing anything to the party. Good tube overdrive or saturation is nice. For future reference, there is a kind of send/return pedals called blender pedals. The most famous is probably the Xotic X-Blender: https://xotic.us/effects/x-blender/ The thing about blenders is that you can control wet/dry and typically there's also dry amplification to ensure the signal doesn't g...

Patch idea: make the Subharmonicon stereo

The Subharmonicon features two VCOs, each of which provides two clock-divided sub-oscillators. All this is mixed into one signal that goes through one EG, VCF, and VCA. While you can achieve fantastic results with that alone, I was tempted to split the two VCOs into their own signal chains so that y...

Re: Moog releases 2.0 firmware for Mother-32

You can upgrade only via MIDI IN.

If the ERASE works but the big firmware payload doesn't, go down below 30% of the bandwidth speed in SyEx Librarian's preferences. It's what I had to do to make it work myself. Both the MIDI light and the tempo diode should blink during upload.
