Re: SSF zero point oscilator

Enjoying the discussion! In the divkid video, I'm curious how to get the sound that begins playing around 28:00-28:15 ( https://youtu.be/6v_c-ouRIT0?t=1679 ) ...? I don't have a ZPO yet (it's on my wishlist), but have other thru zero oscillators (Rubicon mk1, Dannysound EN129, Birdkids Bateleur). Is...

Here is a sound based spectrum files created from Fairlight samples which are used then to set the frequency and amplitude bands of a modal filter that is pinged by a single pulse and then feed into a tape delay.
nice one! :tu:

Re: Classic software lost to the ether of new computing

I really miss a unique little piece of Mac software called "b1257+12". I still keep an old OS9 machine around just so I can run it. If you're out there Netochka Nezvanova, please code a modern version! It says that was made in max/msp, so it shouldn't be too tricky to update, right? I vaguely remem...

Noise + S&H modules w/ mutliple outs

This topic was lost with the recent server changes. Anyway, I won't re-type my original question, but just wanted to preserve the list of modules I remember being discussed. Feel free to fill in details or further thoughts. ALM Busy Circuits - Pam's New Workout SSF - Ultra Random Frap Tools - Sapel ...

Noise + S&H modules w/ multiple outs

In my current live skiff, i'm utilizing 10 noise signals that are S&H'd every clock trigger. Eight of them come from Pam's New Workout (8hp) and are controlling filter bands. The other two come from Make Noise Wogglebug (10hp) and Erica Synths Black Modulator (10hp) and are controlling octaves. I'm ...

I've used PureData + Automatonism in the past few years, with pretty good results. VCV Rack is also cool and easier to use, but I felt limited with the built-in modules, particularly when it came to generative stuff. Automatonism also has some cool randomization/preset-saving tools. The downside is...

do you have to choose or can you teach concepts and allow students to figure out the specific software? That works for the better students... but for the less capable it causes more confusion. What I could do is make one the default and the ambitious students can still use other options. The more I...

Reaktor (free) vs VCV ... for students

For an introductory course on modular synthesis and generative music, which do you think will resonate best with college students. 1) Reaktor (free version) w/ Base Blocks + the free blocks that TOYBOX and Hetrick offer. 2) VCV Rack, which obviously has hundreds of modules, although we'd mainly focu...

one big pet peeve of mine in electronic devices are faders that are multinational so that they control a different set of values depending on what 'page' your on. i hear you. i love my rene2, but it has 3 different "pages" for the 16 encoders... so you can easily get lost on what values are on each.

Sugarbytes just released something called Drumcomputer that is pretty cool. It can do polyrhythms and has an interesting synthesis method. It sort of reminds me of Tremor but different. I confess that I bought it right away because it looked so fun... and it is. I really like their stuff. I'm intri...

One of the Kyma users I like in design of his VCS windows is Cristian Vogel. Are there many Kyma users doing this sort of thing? I'm still just a Kyma voyeur, but am curious how deep these things go? Over $400 for his spectral suite... are there a lot of packages out there like this? I didn't reali...

Gibberwocky question

I'm looking at Gibberwocky and trying to understand how it works.

What I'm uncertain about is:
Does the MIDI environment work with anything that will receive MIDI? Or does it only work with Ableton and/or Max?

One thing I love about this system is that I already have most of these modules... so more videos from Make Noise might give me patching ideas (and possibly motivate me to fill in the Mimeophon gap). If I was just starting out, I might go for something like this. Earlier I recommended the Cartesian ...

What synth is in this song? (clipping. "Nothing is Safe

Any idea what synth is being used in this song at 0:14? It's a distinct sound I've heard before, and I imagine there's a classic synth that easily produces that particular sound.

OMN, please don't troll here. I would guess that everyone who reads this thread understands the differences between Kyma, VCV etc., and hardware modular.

This thread was started by Roland, and I appreciate his examples of Kyma patches.

I think I need this.

One question .... I'm sending MIDI that is already tweaked for alternate tunings (e.g. Just Intonation, etc. etc.) and then converted to CV. As long as I don't turn on the semitone quantization, the calibration shouldn't affect any sort of micro-tuning, correct?
