Re: KYMA - SONIC LAB SEEDS

m0rb1d - I love the SampleCloud to pieces as well. I had to stop myself from using it on everything. I've tried dozens of other granular approaches over the past 20 years and none really even come close for me, though I do like Quanta and Kaivo as instruments with a granular engine their core.

(Just edited my post above - I typed ‘bandcamp’ - I meant MainStage !!! My excuse is I was listening to the latest coronavirus updates....)
I was wondering but then I figured there was a piece of software I had never heard of. :)

Re: Best way to sample my modular in Ableton

If on OSX, Mainstage is an useful and cheap application for building sample libraries. While it creates EXS24 files those are easily imported into Ableton Live samplers. The underlying tech / app was Redmatica which was awesome. MainStage provides much of the same functionality for AutoSampler (thou...

Re: Grounding metal rails?

some older 5u modules required the front plate to be grounded. for example, early versions of Modcan, though they away from that fairly quickly. i don't think anyone builds or sells front plate grounded modules anymore.

Re: Cheapest cassette deck with 3 head and pitch control

the price of any of these machines can be cheap or expensive, depending on what the seller knows. they arent really in demand except to a small scene of weirdos ( ; )). To that end, in the US: Reverb = higher prices Ebay = mixed bag, but good deals to be had Craigslist = mixed but better than Rever...

Re: KYMA - SONIC LAB SEEDS

https://soundcloud.com/bphenix/2020-week-11a Kyma (same basic sound as last week but with tweaked impulse design) recorded to cassette on high-speed that is then played back at half-speed and bounced down with another version of the sound play at the initial pitch but half tempo. That cycle is then...

I missed that, Roland. That is awesome.

Which festivals are you curating?

I worked up a submission to KISS2020 this year. I am so not good about talking about music and sound (insert Martin Mull quote here).

Re: KYMA - SONIC LAB SEEDS

I don't think Geoff is around so I'll post this example here for him: Avril 14th through the HHM / markov generator. As a side note, Avril 14th must be my favorite piece of work from the past 20 years with the Murcof & Vanessa Wagner version being a particular favorite version. Part 1 https://soundc...

Re: KYMA - SONIC LAB SEEDS

New weekly sound. Working on a "pluck designer" used for physical modeling based sounds. Having some issues with Live and drop-outs so the example is cut a bit short.

Re: KYMA examples

I seem to be very much in the physical modeling rabbit hole this year. Here is a sympathetic string example. The decay is set a bit overly high because I was pushing it to see what happens. Using Satie's Gnossienne as the sequence. https://soundcloud.com/bphenix/2020-week-7a Here is a heavy feedback...

Re: KYMA examples

Still a very acoustic feel into it Ben. Did you use a modal filter for this? I used a combination of a modal filter, spectra files plus creating an impulse that is only the 'unvoiced' part. Was a bit fiddly and I had some issues with other samples, particularly a low tom for some reason. I may retu...

Re: KYMA examples

Prompted by a conversation with fabbly about physical modeling and drums, I tried to build an 'acoustic' kit in Kyma. Instead, I ended up with something more like my old Emax II with an 808 sample set.

Tonsturm Frq•Shift

Super cool new Frequency Shifter with the ability to add delay, resonator and filters to the feedback path. One of the nicer sounding shifters I've used.

Re: Harmonic Filtering software?

This is a feature of Kyma when doing spectral processing. You can create versions of the 'voiced' and 'unvoiced' parts. Unvoiced parts are typically the non-harmonic elements. As you can imagine, it is as much art as it is science with a myriad of trade-offs and fine tuning. As mentioned, Isotope RX...

Re: KYMA examples

Spectrum from Fairlight samples setting the frequency and amplitude of a cloud bank that is then fed into harmonic network that is also being controlled by the same spectral source. Wave shape of grains in the cloud bank are being slowing modulated.

Re: KYMA examples

If I had to setup a system from scratch today and I only needed stereo, I’d used the Dante USB to Ethernet adapter with Kyma. I do hope for another revision on the hardware side, mostly because I’ve been pushing the limits on the processing side. I may just go wormhole soon. Unfortunately, they can’...

Looking forward to KISS2020. It looks ambitious and quite interesting what they are encouraging this year for topics. I am trying to do at least one Kyma based recording per week. Here is a sound based on spectrum files created from Fairlight samples which are used then to set the frequency and ampl...

Over the long weekend, I playing with a one of my favorite things: varying grains into resonators or modal filters. It depends on your workflow. The timeline can be tied to midi clock easily. Standalone sounds can, but the work is greater. It is also less needed because standalone sounds act more like instruments so feeding in midi or other triggers makes more contextual sense. It is easy enough to a master sync ...

Stupid question but i can't find anything on the website...is there a list somewhere of the DSP 'primitives' that kyma offers? Do you mean hundreds of 'sounds' / prototypes, from basic math to filters, oscillators, FFT processors, and capytalk syntax with all that that entails? There used to be a p...
