Re: Sound design/foley: Opening sequence of "Alien." Analysis?
Jim Shields did a lot work during this period including on Blade Runner and F/X and did sound editing on Alien. There are similar sounds sets in several of his films. The sounds here appear to be largely foley pitched around via tape and filters. I doubt they used something as complex as a CMI mostl...

Have you checked out FlipWrap?
https://kyma.symbolicsound.com/library/ ... -flipwrap/
It was a sound I worked on with some others to do multi-reflection folding (up to 255 folds). I find it a bit more easily controllable than the Input/Output version.

Re: Problems With Audio Damage Continua
I’d try and reinstall with the latest version. I don’t have Continua but I’ve never had trouble with AD plug-ins and they have always been rock solid for me. I do know they have been updating many of the, recently due to changes in MacOS.

Re: Explain drivers please
Drivers are not easy and creating performant drivers, even harder. Legacy support is expense and can easily hold back innovation because to support the past you may be force to carry poor decisions or implementation into the future. There is also little incentive to maintain that legacy support, esp...

I traded emails with Tony a few months ago. I know he has been busy moving and dealing with life things. I was inquiring about a custom project so I don’t have any info on the cases.

Here is a kym file patch loosely based on the diagram found in Allen Strange's book covering the the basics of the Buchla 266. Within this patch you'll find a basic implementation of the Quantized Random Voltage sections.

Alex, these are great. I tend to get distracted on the weird sound side or trying to solve a design problem so I have a ton of respect for composers and musicians who have that clarity and focus to complete things.

I know some people who use kyma as one of their primary tools for game sfx and talk a lot about workflows and building their own personal custom library of modules for their work. I could do an intro if you like. Ping me via DM. As for Ethernet, that is newer of the past couple years. You connect to...

Re: KYMA - SONIC CULTURES LAB
I use it via Ethernet so I don’t worry about FireWire anymore. As for hardware refresh, that is really hard to say. I do know all new orders are backlogged for quite some time. Their manufacturing partner in California has been closed most of the year and the chip provider was also very backlogged. ...

Does anyone know if the TTMC 158 clone card is Easel Command 208C compatible? I’m really taken with the sound of that & I can see me grabbing one for my incoming Command if they’re compatible & available.... Both the 158 and 291 cards from TTMC are 208c compatible. I have both and the 158 is fantas...

Re: Audio Editor for M1 Mac ? ( Wavelab replacement)
There should be a 30 day free demo.
That said, the price may be high TBH. I forgot about the price as a stand-alone app because I have the full suite as I need XD, Illustrator, and a few other apps for work.

Re: Audio Editor for M1 Mac ? ( Wavelab replacement)
Adobe Audition is very good and they tend to stay current and already committed to M1 builds. I’ve been using it on Big Sur so you can run it now on M1 devices. I used to use DSP Quattro but I really hated the last version so switched at that point to Audition.\

Re: Chase Bliss & Meris CXM1978 reverb (Lexicon 224 LARC-like pedal)
I think the format makes sense. There seems to be little left of the full rack gear with so much of the DSP stuff gone into the box or DSP accelerators. The LARC was a remote so this allows them sell to three markets: studio users who want a LARC, guitar players, and the very fast growing small synt...

Re: Dear Audacity: please die. Horribly.
Standalone audio editors have really been marginalized over the years and there are not a ton of options. I used to love DSP Quattro but they made some questionable decisions with the last major update and it was a huge step back in term of usability for simpler tasks, at least for me. After testing...

I spent some time this evening writing a tutorial on how to roll your own sample grain cloud. It covers the creating the core engine and doesn't yet get into adding any additional per grain processing, though it is pretty easy to see how to do that once you have the core engine created. It is also d...
