Re: SEMulation - how create a SEM-type sound?

R*S Haible Living VCO is not Moogish at all. The inspiration for this VCO was a mutation of features found in EMS and Yamaha CS80. Seems to be some confusion about the inspiration for the Living VCO. I've seen references to Moog and EMS VCOs (mostly their limitations) but I've never seen anything r...

Re: SEMulation - how create a SEM-type sound?

The bubblesound Dual SEM20 early run may have been limited, but hasn't been for a while now: https://www.ctrl-mod.com/products/dual-sem20-filter . I am not super familiar with the SEM sound, so grain of salt: the resonance is relatively strong with the Dual SEM20, but it does not self-oscillate unle...

And take good care of yourself. I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. :tu: I echo that. In the...

But I hear Joranalogue and Klavis both have stuff they're going to announce soon, so I'm going to wait at least a little bit :) Also, if I picked up Shelves I might find myself wanting to shelve Ripples... Yes there is something magic about Rings. Running it into Ursa Major SST 282 and a Stargate 262 is divine
What's the Stargate 262? Rudimentary web search couldn't get results other than for the show.

Re: Verbos Complex Oscillator and Vactrols?

Some of the earlier versions of the CO had a vactrol on the modulation bus (I don't know what else might have been vactrol'ed). If you want FM without the vactrol on the bus, you can patch from one osc to another via the FM input (linear) or C.V. input (exponential).

WMD/SSF S.P.O. is worth a look. Scale/polarize/offset in 4hp. Each "channel" of it can also process two summed signals if you need some basic mixing, but you save some space cos mixing isn't one of its main focuses.

NAD HP50s are relatively flat response-wise. Bass is not overwhelming. I'm not sure how their current offerings (HP 80 & HP30) compare with the 50s.

Re: All Mutable System?

I agree with the point made by Emilie (and others) that an all-MI system isn't the way to go. But I totally disagree with the notion that things like what she describes as classic synthesis, modern waveshaping, and physical don't belong in the same case with each other. That's the whole fun of Euro...

Re: Kurzweil K2000R basic model worth $100?

Yes, I'd say it's worth it. If you're willing to take the time, learn the VAST structure and get under the hood of its sound design, it can yield some remarkable results even without the sampling option. I'd be lost without my hard copy of the manual, though, since me and large pdfs don't get along.

Afaik this is the filter it's inspired by (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korg_MS-10), not that the noise interaction with the resonance is what gets you that screaming distortion sound. My understanding is both the AT(C) and Korg filters are based on a Sallen-Key topology, but are different impleme...

Re: Smallest Analog LFO (VCOs?)

+1. The Dual VCO goes into LFO territory, 5 seconds a cycle from the manufacturer's website, and is temperature compensated. I am not sure the Skew Fade is temp co'd. The Dual VCO looks really interesting, especially for modulating another dense oscillator like a Rubicon, Generate 3 or ZPO. How is ...

Re: Smallest Analog LFO (VCOs?)

OP might want to look at Zlob LFO/VCO options. Pretty sure all of his stuff is analogue: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/zlob-skew-fade-lfo - 3HP https://www.modulargrid.net/e/zlob-dual-vco - 4HP but dual vco/lfo +1. Re: Designers: For VCO frequency why aren’t trim pots used for course tune and big knobs for fine tune?

Another VCO with a large fine tune knob in addition to the Malekko is the AFG. I find that I prefer the larger fine tune knob. I use a Ladik Triple CV set to the smallest voltage range to fine tune other VCOs with "fine" tune pots that really don't give fine control at all. Also handy for filters wh...

Great thread! Glad someone mentioned Sachiko M, and I'd add the others she's collaborated with in the "Onkyo" realm. Echoing Radigue = life-changing. Amusingly enough to me with the rabbit hole I've gone down with my own stuff, I now find her works change too quickly! The second Trilogie de la Mort ...

AFG... with bubblesound-style knobs on. Love the big fine tune knob, the layout is fun to move around, and the amount of resistance of the pots does it for me. The splines on the bubblesound-type knobs give me the tactile feedback I like, especially when making detailed adjustments. I echo the Vermo...

i've seen people reporting that the resonance become an assault on the earholes when Q is pushed past 11 o'clock. is that your experience as well? I have the Instruo i-o47 which is inspired by the ARP 2500. I don't have experience with any other ARP-type filters out there, but I really like the sound and flexibility of this filter--the fine tune knob is a nice touch, in addition to the other features in there. I don't have the G-Storm Tonus, b...

Just all improvised. There’s rarely any “songs” from albums in their live sets. And if there are, they’re usually morphed and tweaked beyond recognition. More recently, sure. Listening to the digitally-released live sets from same time frames show similarities of "themes" in each section, for lack ...
