Re: Is LOW humidity a problem for synths?

No, low humidity isn't a problem for your synths at the levels you are talking about (I live in Minnesota). I wouldn't worry about ESD unless you are opening up your equipment and servicing components. Some data center providers still try to maintain 35-40% humidity levels, but they are wasting ener...

I thought Devin had closed the Pro2021 project. Are you guys going to handle the kit for him now? It might be the nicest DIY synth project I've worked on in the past 20 years. The engineering, casework, and instructions are very high quality. The fatar keybed is really nice (don't forget about the c...

I'm planning to start this build in a couple weeks. I've got all the boms loaded in Mouser and just need to execute the order. Is the power transformer mounted under the two boards in the recommended case? I'm not fond of the case height either. I was planning to build my own wooden case and maybe I...

My set of 0.01% SMD resistors were around $20. Seems pretty cheap in the big picture.

What people often forget about are the Cwejman stuff that never sold well in the market but which were still built to extraordinarily high standards: S2 mono synth, subrack, Zaehl module, DP-2, etc. Any one of these would elevate the status of the designer into elite territory. The guy probably spen...

I just received my Gene kit today (nicely packaged!) so I can start sourcing parts and building. I see a link to the BOM at the top of this thread. Where can I find the build guide? How are people coming along with this build?

Interesting. How are you guys planning to integrate aftertouch into the synth? Hardwire it into the filter cutoff modulation? Add another switch to control routing? Pretty cool development.

Thanks for clarifying the ARP triggering (or lack of). Makes sense. I actually tried enabling the retrig when I discovered this issue, but it made no difference because the VCA sustain level was turned all the way up. I'm still learning this synth and I'm finding that the controls sort of have...

I was playing with the pro2021 last night (sounds great!) and noticed something strange. I turned up the VCA attack setting to introduce the characteristic ramp up sound while playing. When I turn on the arpeggiator it seems to ignore the VCA attack envelope setting. I switch off the arp and the VCA...

A strobe tuning app sounds like a good idea. I did a quick search and found dozens of these apps. Which one are you guys referring to? Here's a free one that's been around a while and now can run in your browser: https://www.tomasboril.cz/tbstrobetuner/ Here's a $49 plugin: https://www.petersontuner...

The high trim adjustment doesn't seem to change the frequency when I watch the signal on an oscilloscope. The signal moves around a little bit on my scope so it's hard to tell if this trimpot is doing anything. :despair: The synth sounds great once the vcos are tuned! I'm really enjoying it. Minor b...

I completed most of the calibration tonight. I don't understand the Osc Hi Trim calibration: "Switch VCO 1 to octave 3 and hit high C and adjust VCO 1’s TP 2 (Osc Hi Trim) to minimize out-of-tune cents between hitting a low C and a high C." Can anyone explain this? Also I think the image on page 62 ...

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/19/porsche-911-gt2-rs-back-in-production-ship-sinks/ . Wow. It's not that common to lose a ship these days, much less one carrying that kind of cargo. At first I was imaging my keybed lying next to a Porche racing car on the bottom of the sea. However, it looks like...

On page 55 in the build guide, the "AUDIO IN" connector is listed twice. Not such a big deal because it looks like both connectors are wired up the same way.

Page 54 of the build guide lists the MIDI IN connector 3 times. I'm guessing based on the cable lengths this should be MIDI IN, MIDI OUT, and MIDI THRU from top to bottom.

Yeah, I understand that NC means normally closed for the CV jacks, but I'm referring to the "N/C" designation for the midi jacks molex pin number.
