Re: ALM System Coupe

It really does look like a lovely system, but just to be clear, the only sound source is the sampler, right? There look to be a few sound sources; the sampler, the MCO wavetable oscillator and the MCF filter will self oscillate and track v/oct. I was initially confused not to see a Taiko module in ...

Re: Visual Cortex help plz

I've had this, before. I think that it is because you have plugged a composite input in. Colour input is not supported through composite. To get a full colour input, you need to use a component video input. The only reliable way to utilise a composite input is in b&w, using the Luma output. This que...

Re: FLUX - Temporal Modulation Rhythm Sequencer Launching Soon on Kickstarter

Did anybody figure out whether you can switch between the patterns under CV control?
I appreciate that the patterns can be long, but I'm thinking about being able to change feel dynamically.

Re: how do you manage your musical timeline using modular

This is a complex question because we all have different ideas about what constitutes an arrangement and what constitutes the reproduction of an arrangement. When it comes to more traditional arrangement 'structures', it looks like many people are tending to push those out of the modular into DAW ty...

Re: Why do FM patches so often sound like bells (NOOB ALERT!)

This is a really interesting question. I think that it may be uesful to look at it from the other side. "Why does subtractive synthesis not usually sound like bells?" Traditional subtractive synths start with waveforms like sawtooth and square wave. These base waveforms are actually clusters of harm...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer Teaser

However, the fact still remains that there is (approx) a 200us delay between gate and pitch/velocity and this does affect modules which snapshot their states via a trigger. This is not misinformation and does affect modules currently in my system. This is a pretty common issue within Eurorack seque...

Slight worry when I saw the news of One in fear of making my MPC Live obsolete. After browsing the specs, I feel relieved. However I would want CV I/O on mpc Live too. Obsolete not,but value-wise it will be soon worthless ;) I don't think so. It depends on your workflow. I have a Live. I'd like CV ...

Most of the people that I am involved with don't use modular, but we have similar influences and focus of enquiry.

Theres probability if thats what you mean Probably not. The normal meaning of conditional implies that the trigger occurs only when something else happens. I want to know what that something else is. The Elektron sequencers have conditional triggers. You can make events in one channel depend on eve...

Re: (UK) Show me the ways of the Video Synthesis Warrior...

I was wondering whether there were any UK members who live in the North (around Leeds?) that are into video synthesis and if so, are there any meetups/any members that would be interested in letting me see how it all goes? I've just had a thought. Myself and some friends are having a bit of a mini ...

Hi, I'm in Manchester, UK. For the last few years, I have been going to the Brighton Modular Meet because they always have a visual room. Take your time getting into this as it is expensive and you want to make sure that you build a system that does what you want. Visual synths work well with regula...

I'd stay away from CRT's unless you really know what you are doing. They can be lethal. I remember watching one of our tech's working on a Mac Plus in the 80's. He took a shock from the tube and was literally thrown into a wall over 6 feet away. He was lucky. It's really not worth it. A proper scope...

There's not much around that does that in the modular world.

The timing of CV compared to gates can be massively counterintuitive in the part of our world where analogue voltages meets digital sound modules.

It would be helpful if people explained WHY they choose the sequencer that they choose. I don't use a complex sequencer within my rack. My rack focus is on playability and intuitive creativity. That said, I'd be interested in a sequencer that could record in the CV step sequences that I create with ...

I was able to reduce the lengths of the pulses coming out of the Varigate 4 to the shortest setting and it worked fine.

Why do CV/gate sequencers change the CV after the gate?

As the title. Why do they build them like this? I keep coming across cv/gate sequencers that change the CV value AFTER they have sent the gate. This isn't really noticeable for a more 'traditional' continuous analogue type of VCO, but it can be a nightmare for some of the digital ones that seem to d...

Making slight changes to something that you have already done can be tricky. Another downside that it has i...

Now, if you want glitchy mixing, you could use something like a Karl Klomp Dirty Mixer, which is very very easy to build, but since the two signals aren't in sync, it can be very glitchy, and one (or possibly both) of the signals will roll on the screen instead of staying still. I much prefer a cle...

This is why I'm so wary of things like Roland's Plug-Out line of synths, or the Moog Sirin. They seem pretty powerful now, but once their companies stop supporting them you're pretty much up the creek since without the program you can no longer access about half of its functions. Random end of lifi...
