Re: New Panels - Poll (closed)

Umm....that Benjolin panel & knob combo is amazing. Would you be willing to make one for the Tseng version? This is the one i have: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/other-unknown-benjolin- Hello! I recently completed a black panel for a Benjolin I built, and enjoyed the process, so I'm planning on maki...

Re: what to get next

I think that's a great system as it is - Treadstone with the Maths and Plaits, and Cellz as a controller. I would personally remove the Chipz oscillator, because you already have 2 massively versatile voices (Treadstone & Plaits) in a small system. I'd echo the addition of a VCA/mixer, like an Intel...

Re: Shoving Stuff Into Things

Shoving gates instead of envelopes or LFOs into filter and vco cv inputs
Shoving random things into the cv inputs of my Modcan CV recorder.
Shoving both cv and audio into the inputs of my wmd/ssf ultrafold.
Shoving Three Sisters outputs back into its inputs.

Re: Is there a guide to using FM in modular?

I've asked this question to my local modular group with a LOT of very technical and knowledgeable people and can actually explain FM on a technical level, but I think in a practical context, in making sounds that inspires you to create musical pieces, use your ears.

Re: Ugliest module, best looking one !

I tend to like clean and consistent, but not overly utilitarian, although for some reason I can totally live with Doepfer, but find Intellijel rather boring. I think my current favourites are XAOC and Joranalogue. They've got a consistency across their line of modules, have a unique palette, clean l...

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

Earned a PhD instead of spending the same time and money building a modular-- then I could have gotten in on the ground floor of computer music, scored a prestigious professorship, published a bunch of articles and books... Nah, what I did was much more fun. No regrets. Trust me, Ph.Ds are overrate...

Re: variations on noise / random feedback textures

I've used a Doepfer 189-1 bitcrusher patched back into itself as a really, really good noise generator. It has 16 different modes of bitcrushing and sample reduction with a knob and cv input for each, so you get a really vast range of sounds either by playing the knobs or sending it cv, from pitched...

Re: Help me fill 6HP!

Frap Tools 321 if you need more attenuverting/offsetting utility. You can use it to potentially combine and invert outputs from the Planar for additional signals. The offset knobs also send voltage on their own, so I've use it as a kind of manual gate to turn on and off stuff (like the Hold function...

Re: Live Performance: Best solution for manual switch?

I've had the Acid Rain Switchblade for a few months, and reach for it a lot in my patching. It's got 3 channels of 2-way switches with both manual button and a clock input for each channel, and with 3 channels you can sort of daisy chain them (switch between 2 PAIRS of inputs while still being able ...

Re: Ieaskul F. Mobenthey in 2020

Another quick thought about Denum and patching itself as the input and cv for its vca, this seems on purpose and pretty useful within the IFM environment. Also this isn’t the response when patching some external signal as cv input. So, patch the Denum triangle to its vca cv in and the stereo output...

Wow, thanks for this. You just schooled me on the Denum and I'm totally excited to play around with it today. awesome, Mobenthey is the best. It’s incredible all the sounds you can get from just a single Denum by modulating it with itself through its vca. heck if you have 2x Denum and patch #1 squa...

Lovely! Thanks for sharing. The Benjolin is a truly fantastic module. So versatile in a patch. I am constantly playing around with its extreme range, from LFO rate to high audio rate.

Re: Ieaskul F. Mobenthey in 2020

I did have a question (for anyone paying attention to this): Is fourses basically 4 x Denum? I don’t look at them as all that similar either. I’d add that Fources and Denum are Triangles but with Fources the knob or the cv input you can control it’s shape from triangle to upward/downward sloping sa...

Re: Ieaskul modules in lay-man terms

Seriously, don't even bother trying to get precise v/oct tuning with the Mobenthey modules. It's not designed to work that way. Get another oscillator. If you want something crazy, the Benjolin tracks better (with the osc cv knob fully CW).

Re: Ieaskul F. Mobenthey in 2020

I did have a question (for anyone paying attention to this): Is fourses basically 4 x Denum? Not exactly. The Denum comes with VCAs, which are really useful, and I think the four osc in the Fourses are all connected to modulate each other. Also, Fourses does not have a square output for each oscill...

I have my trusty old Pittsburgh Timetable that I use in almost every patch and it's unequivocally one of my forever, desert-island modules. 4 clock divided outputs, 4 logic outputs (with 3 modes that change its relation to the clock divider side), AND 3 stepped cv outputs that follow the logic gate ...

Re: harmonic interval sequencer?

The Keystep can do polyphonic sequencing. For modules, i recently picked up the Toppobrillo Quantimator which has 3 outputs that can output various chords based on a single uncoming sequence. It can also arpeggiate incoming notes as well as act as a basic shift register.

Pittsburgh Lifeforms Touch Controller - tips and tricks/cool uses??

I got the controller during the Kickstarter, and keep discovering new things to use it for. Today I realized in Duo mode, I can use one side to transpose the other side, since voltages are added in the All outputs. So: Left side - 5-step sequence with x1 clock division (same clock rate as incomoing ...
