Re: Behringer VCS3
This is probably the one synth that Behringer has hinted at that I would likely buy at some point if it works reasonably well and sounds decent. It will be amusing when many people buy it off of hype and then decide it’s “not musical”.

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?
Interesting discussion. While I think doing anything to save the environment is a laudable goal, I don’t believe a substantial number of used gear buyers are willing to pay the same price or more, for a used item on this basis alone. I also think that it is an entirely ineffective means of environm...

Pretty amazing price really. Assuming it sounds reasonably good and functions well, that’s hard to beat.

Re: Behringer 2600
Unfortunate about the poor aesthetics. The orange isn’t bad on its own and the LEDs aren’t bad on their own but together, they are ugly. They should have either replaced the orange with something muted like gray or white or chose LED colors that would compliment the orange - which frankly is probabl...

Re: Options for splitting frequencies like Res EQ & 419?
Doesn't splitting a signal into two sets of frequency bands add additional color? Or do you mean distortion or resonance? The 4MS SMR, Frap Tools Fumana, and Verbos Bark filters can all split signals into two sets of bands. A lot of fixed filter banks allow you to do something similar. You could al...

Options for splitting frequencies like Res EQ & 419?
The UDO Super 6 “binaural” feature has caused me think more about interesting ways of splitting mono sounds into stereo. I have had the thought that one interesting way to separate sound would be into filtered bands in the way that the Moog 419 or Serge Resonate EQ do to create an interesting stereo...

Re: Cleaning smoky gear :(
Wipe it down with a mild cleaner. Open up a fresh bar of white soap and set it on or near the synth when you aren’t playing it, that will absorb smells. By crackle to you mean the filter pot is scratchy? Try turning it back and forth rapidly. pots are self lubricating and on answer synth like that, ...

Re: EURORACK METALHEADS! Long Rant Warning.
Are we talking about metal or industrial? I was into industrial when it broke out in the early 90s but the only thing industrial in recent years that caught my interest is Youth Code: https://youtu.be/1b5QzTZEV0c Also dig some of stuff like The Body but not sure that is industrial in the classic sen...

Re: What is the worst synth sounding you ever bought and why ?
Any of the “synth on a chip” CEM3396 / PA397 based synth have always sounded really disappointing to me and I tried a bunch. My list: Six Track, Mopho, Prophet 08, Evolver (had 3 times). The Six Track sounded bland and muddy, the DSI instruments sounded bland and fizzy. I have not owned a Matrix 100...

Re: Cheapest Early Moog system
You can do a lot and get good sound and solid reliability with any of the Moog synths. I personally wouldn’t go the B55 route because it’s still early adopter days which is always frustrating, issues have been noted, the modules are very basic so while it may seem cheap, you probably need 2 or 3 mod...

Re: EMS Synthi waiting list
Me too! Not at all interested in the original or the expensive clones. I think those are all great but for what it is, I’m not remotely willing to drop that kind of cash. I’d be happy to have a fun, cheap compromise that is somewhere in the ballpark.

Re: SEMulation - how create a SEM-type sound?
When running my AJH Minimod Oscillators through the Tom Oberheim SEM and adjusting levels the oscillators sound pretty much the same as the SEM oscillators. I did notice all my modular oscillators were louder than those in the SEM and had to be attenuated. Watch your gain-staging because it affects ...

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?
. EDIT: Reverb does show the sold for price in the case of lowered prices, but not best offers (I think?) Yes, this is what I am seeing. If the seller lowers their asking price, that is recorded on the sold items. However, if the seller accepts an offer below their asking price, that is not display...

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?
I mentioned this in another post but I just realized that Reverb does not post the actual selling price of items sold below asking price (from an accepted offer). Reverb only publishes the listed prices when sold. I verified this on items I sold after agreeing to a lower offer price. They show up as...

Re: First Ever Post - re: Oberheim TVP $$$
Are you searching by sold prices or listed prices? I don’t think I’ve seen one sell for $8k but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone lists them for that much. Edit: it appears that reverb does not show the price items actually sold for on offer, only their list price when sold. That definitely skews t...

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?
Muffwiggler used to have a much more active buying and selling community. When I got in to modular you could find more here than anywhere else. There was a lot of trust here that has probably eroded as more people have joined the community. Granted, there were always people taking advantage of that ...

Re: Why buy used at recent market prices?
I’ve sold gear on reverb that can be acquired new for the price I it sold for. :hmm: So you ripped people off, and are recommending they don't buy from you? That’s an interesting take. I posted items on reverb for the going rate on reverb just like most people do. I actually priced them a little le...

It sounds like it really depends on what you are looking for. I guess I unfortunately must be looking at gear that isn’t taking much of a hit in the aftermarket.

Why buy used at recent market prices?
This doesn’t apply to vintage and gear no longer made. I’ve noticed in the past year or so that the vast majority of gear I’ve acquired has been new as I can’t justify the the used prices. You can almost always find a 10% discount on new gear somewhere and I’ve found most used gear is priced in line...
