Re: Moon M530 Delay - IC Chip

Erica Synths claims a "custom DSP engine", but I see what you mean regarding a similar look and feature set.

Moon M530 Delay - IC Chip

Does anybody know what kind of IC does Moon M530 use for digital processing?
The 3–3000 ms range is really impressive, far exceeding the popular Princeton PT2399, so I assume it's DSP-based.

Could someone please look it up on the pcb?

Re: Need a boring module - cv shifter

Similar to Moon M525M CP Attenuator/Mixer, the regular M526 Reversible Mixer could probably be modified to provide voltage offset on one of the unsued inputs. @LesMoMo what would be a reliable 10V source on the M526 pcb?

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

You are right, I should have made it the same functional size. Sorry about that.
The size difference wasn't intentional. I just grabbed all 3-per-row modules on Modulargrid.
Found it interesting to see who actually makes most of them.

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

because it's not an intellectual comparison. It's to make a point about subjective perception of the underlying technical principle. There can be beauty in technical design. It involves efficiency, balance, clarity, consistency. I don't see it in those condensed modules. Just my 2 cents. Your mileag...

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

May I ask why did you build your high-density system in MU in the first place? Why not do it in Euro? It seems like the result would neither be as dense as Euro, nor would it look like MU anymore. By "not looking like MU", I mean that a single-width module would become the main logical building bloc...

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

Now, this will be a completely wrong, unfair and biased comparison, but which system would you rather play?

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

Of course there's no offense. As Rex says, you like what you like. That's a personal 'call'. Can be discussed and sometimes both sides learn something from that discussion. The disagreeable part is your saying 3 row jacks need special "low-profile" plugs. Which is not true. That was the reason to r...

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

Not liking something is different to not accepting -and mis-stating the limitations of- an industry-wide standard. OP saying one cannot patch three jacks at that spacing -without "low-profile" jacks- is patently false as the 962 and decades of audio gear use clearly shows. It's a reality to say you...

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

re; panel/controls design problems (jacks dispersed inside of knob/switch fields) I still do not ~get it~. I mean, I understand the reasons why some 5U modules are laid out the way they are, most of which is due to retaining some sort of respect for the older designs. However, some things designers...

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

I agree with what you say. However, the traditional MU users should be able to voice their opinions on overpopulated modules, which erode the essence of the format. A builder should know that they may be loosing sales either way. <rant>Obviously, I don't understand the reason for buying into a forma...

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

Then there's this. Is Roger a "reputable brand" in MU? A quote from Roger's design philosophy: - Separate functions are put on separate modules, not combined. - Big knobs, 1/4 jacks, but resist over-populated panels. https://synthesizers.com/technical.html His "++" high-density modules are the resu...

Re: Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

I think the questions you need to ask is: Does the benefit of tighter space outweights the reduced comfort of small knobs? Are you ok with your design being harder to use? The biggest advantage of MU is that it's more standardized than Euro. You don't want one module to be harder to operate than oth...

Re: AD, AR or ADSR ?

those tiny controls though...
Competing with Eure on size is a hopeless effort. If space is an important objective, 5U is not a good choice in the first place.

Mathematically it's the same. Practically, every analog module has a slightly different response curve.

Re: SSL Serge Smooth / Stepped Generator

Anyway - I'm working on your suggestions. 1. Regarding commoned jacks, there's obviously limited room in the MU format. So - If you were to pick ONE input or output jack that would be best to parallel a second jack on the panel, what would it be? my first choice would be CV IN. 2. I'm assuming that...

Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP - ANNOUNCED

A new addition to 5U has been announced. It looks like a proposition for people who love the high density of Euro but insist on 1/4" jacks. What do you guys think? Yes? No? https://www.modulargrid.net/img/imagecache/202x826_29071.jpg Multifunction Daisy DSP based module The multi-function Z506 Swiss...

Re: SSL Serge Smooth / Stepped Generator

Unless I'm mistaken, The Lin/Expo switch is the same as OUT > CV IN The Loop switch is the same as CYCLE > IN It's a very basic circuit modification, like normalling with a switch. The convenience definitely outweighs the cost. Also, I don't understand the rationale for removing some of the original...

Re: SSL Serge Smooth / Stepped Generator

The point was that the R*S Euro version was intensionally redesigned to compensate for the lack of banana jacks. The switches facilitate the most common connections while saving valuable jacks for other, more advanced tasks. Otherwise, it would cost two jacks, just to create a loop, and could discou...
