Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument

Still no response from these guys. Has anyone else asked for a refund?

EDIT: Brian just called me, super nice guy, did a refund on the spot. They sound flat out.

Sorry to hear about your house. FWIW, I had inquired about the next Avalon run about a month ago and Brian just responded yesterday so I’m sure you’ll hear from him soon.
Thanks mate, fingers crossed.

Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument

Has anyone heard from these guys in the past month? I had to ask for a refund because of urgent repairs to my house. I've not heard back in two weeks and now I am sending them an email every day. I didn't commit through kickstarter, I had paid in full through their website. Maybe that was my biggest...

Re: Arturia PolyMatrix / PolyBrute coming?

it can do complex sounds for sure, but so can the Rev2 and offers more voices for less money...and to my years the Rev2 sounds better Pretty sure the rev2 doesn’t have wavefolders after the oscillators, a second filter and a bunch of badass performance controls. Why the comparison with the rev2 and...

Re: Akai VX600 Linear FM

Are you going to give it a shot? I believe it says 10K but the value is probably not too critical... It would be nice to have the modulation switchable between linear and exponential with a switch on the back. But then again that would require flying wires which would mess with the serviceability o...

Re: Akai VX600 Linear FM

What do you think the pull down is for? I'm not sure, maybe to suppress switching artifacts/clicks? That might suppress the pitch warble as the cap charges up. However, since even changing menu pages on the VX600 causes pitch glitches due to the cpu drain, it is possibly just in line with the charm...

Re: Akai VX600 Linear FM

Pin 5 of the 4053 is actually not connected so it should be possible to hook the other pole up to the exponential FM input like it's done on the Xpander. However, I'm not sure if such an "always on" mode would create any issues... I did think about this. I think the behavior is the switches is to o...

Re: Akai VX600 Linear FM

Touché, perhaps it does need a pull down. That might quell the brief higher pitch transient when switching to VCO fm.

Edit: Also, thanks for taking an interest!

What do you think the pull down is for?

I'm waiting on the local hardware shop to restock their shelving units so I have enough space to set up my computer to record some examples.

Isn't it just AC-coupled Exponential FM? How does the capacitor convert the signal from exponential to linear?
No, the cap just cuts the DC because good circuit design. The CEM3374 has an IREF input which can be used for linear FM. It’s in the Xpander service manual.

Akai VX600 Linear FM

I’m not sure if this counts as DIY but I can’t see a forum specifically for synth mods. Apologies if it’s in the wrong place. So I did it. I converted my VX600 from exponential to linear FM. For each voice card I desoldered R3 and soldered a 0.1uF cap from the upper pin to a 150k 1% resistor which i...

Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument

Re. the CV lines, around the 16:00 mark in this video he discusses how they had to revamp the DAC board to add extra channels to accommodate the new chorus circuit - whether there are any spare ones is unclear: Nice. If they ran out of CV Sample and hold lines on the first DAC board then lets hope ...

Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument

Well I dropped bank on the kit. Fingers crossed it doesn’t wreck me. I’m going to look into filter mixing when I get it. If abstrakt are good engineers they should leave some taps and maybe even board space to jimmy in a 2164 based mixer. The real question is whether they have any spare cv lines com...

Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument

Is anybody here getting the kit version?

I really want a sweepable LPF HPF notch filter mixer. I’ve read that this was an option on the euro crowbx boards. Has anyone thought of adding this to the vs-1?

Mr Brownian Motion, if you make this module (and I hope you do) here's my 2c on an important thing that is often overlooked on such effects: On most modules that have some kind of freeze function, when freeze is engaged it freezes the audio buffer immediately. So if you freeze on the first gate of ...

For those with the Owl, I made something similar called Time Vortex. It's in the Owl download area. Thinking of making one for the even less popular Salt module, because it has more memory. When you go to market, I'd recommend a clear comparison between this and Sampleslicer, and also Morphagene. A clear differentiator will help those of us who already have Morphagenes (or Sampleslicers) gas on yours.... Good advice. It's almost like you want to spend money... We're a long way from th...

Well, if you are interested in the "competition" you should also look at the Ginko Sampleslicer module. It's nothing new, but I would guess it covers similar ground. I don't want to stifle your enthusiasm, just want to make sure you're spending your time on something worthwhile. If you do it for yo...

Sorry for the late replies everyone. I ended up selling the omega because I was very short on cash. The new owner seems happy. Regarding the custom filters, no os update is needed, they just use the AUX filter slot. They're lowpass only, and have a -12/24db mode momentary switch on each card. I did ...
