SH101 Noise Levels - common causes

Hi Forum I’m on a quest to lower the noise floor in my studio. My SH101 is emitting a background noise which is manageable, but louder than other 101s i heard. I use the official Boss power plug with the filter on the cable. I tried running the synth through an isolating transformer and lift the gro...

KC811 vs MAT02

Hi Forum, I’m planning to build a 259 clone. KC811 is a replacement for the MAT02 dual NPN. I happen to have both components in my parts boxes. Is there any preference for either when it comes to performance ? I tried comparing the datasheets but it’s way beyond my knowledge level to say which part ...

Re: Noise/hum when plugging into MIDI IN on SH1oh1

https://soundcloud.com/ubx127/sh101-midi-clck-noise/s-nOgQu Did a brief recording of noise levels. It's very faint but noticeable with headphones. One interesting thing is that my MPC has 4 MIDI outs (3 of which are connected to the midi patchbay where the SH101 is connected), if I activate clock ov...

Following this. I have this exact issue as well. The noise is at manageable levels but a fix would be great.

Scope recommendations

Need some help from you experienced DIYers. Troubleshooting circuits with just a DVM is starting to become a pain. It seems it's time for me to invest in a scope. Requirements are: fairly cheap and fairly small (my "workbench" is a corner of my studio). Options I found: At first glance the DSO Nano ...

Finally getting around to building this. Question about the switches.

APEM MHS122K is in the BOM. This is a single pole switch, but pinout on the board for the ON-ON is for a double pole switch. Is this really the right part? Havnt seen this mentioned anywhere.

Non-polar electrolyt replacement

Hello Wigglers, I'm stuck on a project (MOTM 490 filter), i have all the component except the needed non polar 1uf electro caps. To make matters worse, I can't find these at my suppliers here in Sweden and would need to place a mouser order for just these caps. I don't know enough about caps and cir...

mounting rails (MOTM)

Hello DIY'ers I have an ongoing thread in the 5U forums about synth cabinets in europe. A problem that has come up is mounting rails. I've seen alot on pictures here that many have built there own cabinets, what have you used for mounting rails ? I know bridechamber sells these for MOTM-modules, but...

If you want metal rails, you would have to do one of two things - either custom order from someone, or go with three sets of Bridechamber ones and shave down the third one. This question came up when discussing my to-be case. Anyone has other ideas for rails ? I'm thinking of three rows of 14U, if ...

Case options for 5U (motm pref.) in europe

Hey Guys! I really need a bigger case for my MOTM-modules, but i have really no space and no tools to be doing any sort of building. I prefer not to have the modules in a 19" case. Do anyone know of anyone selling cases or ? Or maybe even building to specification ? I would appriciate any tips on ca...

DIY Screen Printing on panels, anybody got experience ?

Hello DIYers, my objective lately is to shorten the development time on my DIY-modules. My synth is 5U MOTM, i can buy a big chunk off blanks from bridechamber and punch holes. But in order to get the graphics on there with a consistant look to my other modules i need to screen print. I know people ...
