A basic delay could be built like the Flanger/Chorus layout, ie. single width module with four pots and six sockets, but would require surface mount and probably a daughter board too. But given that the Flanger/Chorus has not sold well I'm not sure I want to go down that route. Whether it hasn't so...

I wonder if enough jacks for a module would fit onto the panel when I ditch the input and output level controls - is the input level essential or could one replace it with a fixed resistor for modular only use? Input level is useful as BBD delays have a small signal operating range before they clip...

+1 to the transistor ladder filter. This last week I’ve been in a studio with a ridiculous selection of vintage synths (minimoog, prophet 10, memorymoog, cs80, ps3300, gleeman pentaphonic, obx, 2600, jp8) and the oakley system with discrete ladder filter I brought was often used for mono and effects...

What kind of design did you have in mind? Is this ASV going to be the basis for it?

I would like to a do a full voltage controlled voice card at some point which would be especially designed for polyphonic use. This wouldn't be a module as such but part of a polysynth project. That would be the ultimate dream, a semi-modular polyphonic system with 5 or 6 voice cards combining the ...

Oakley modular build

This was my first attempt at wood finishing and I'm pretty happy with it, I used Sapele and danish oil. Prepping, ordering, soldering and building took a long time but has been a really rewarding process and I feel like I understand the system inside out - all the better for using it. Playing around...

Ooh this sounds great. I’m thinking about modular round 3 (21U-30U) and was planning the deep equinoxe but I like the sound of this one more. I’m sure many people will be interested in the differences, how do they compare?

SVCO-B issues

I've built two SVCO-Bs, one is working fine and the other is misbehaving. The octave lights work but the pitch of the oscillator does not change octave. When switching from LFO to 32' the pitch changes by about a semitone, and then it remains exactly the same for all the other octave settings. It se...

Thanks Tony, yes having had a play around I'm very happy with it but have wanted a VCA LFO and another envelope so far. The VRG looks great, and the Discontinuity also looks very interesting.

This is surprisingly like my start in 5U, which was mostly Oakley as well. One thing I am a little concerned about though is that you need a bit more protection around the IEC socket and switch. The bar next to some of the crimp connectors is at mains voltage, so reaching into the rack to fiddle wi...

Thanks Tony. It's a testament to your documentation that I haven't had to come nagging about something not working.

Hey that looks really nice! You built yours more or less exactly as I built mine, with angle brackets and plywood. I used old discarded bookshelves for my case (that were made out of clear-heart plywood back in the day that you can't even get anymore), and bought an oak stick from Home Depot for th...

Yes I put it in the general 5U new build thread too, but I thought it would be more appropriate here in the Oakley section, is that not right?

First synthesiser build completed, what next?

Just finished my first synth build of any kind, took a lot of work but I'm extremely happy with the way it sounds and the versatility of such a small package! I took time and care to make sure everything was correct as I went along, but I was expecting a lot more problems, when I first turned it all...

Just finished my first synth build of any kind, took a lot of work but I'm extremely happy with the way it sounds and the versatility of such a small 10U worth of space. Waiting on a handle feet and screws to finish it off. I'm already thinking: what 10U worth would you get next? Oakley midiDAC Oakl...

Well it seems like the best solution would be to get the DLF and then add a diode ladder later, which I think is similar to what the VCS3 has.

A 1U headphone output module would be great!

Thanks for the replies! I might have some fun and go down the homebrew route inspired by this post: https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=140455 A 2U wide MOTM format module (3.5") could probably take an 8cm 3.3" speaker like this: http://www.visaton.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product...

Speaker, amplifier and headphone module in 5U format

Hi there, Hi there. I am planning my first modular system. I've built guitar amps and pedals before. I'm a full-time musician in a band. My favourite synths that I've played are (rather unoriginally) the vcs3, minimoog and arp 2600. I'm going for a simple portable starter package around 12U, with a ...

Thanks for the reply Tony! That slope/bandpass pot in the TSL is really cool, I'm assuming it wouldn't be easy to implement it in the DLF instead of one of the CV depth pots? One thing I'm not quite clear about the DLF is the way the CVs work, I'm guessing they both control the frequency and not the...
