Re: Midibox seq v4+

Tom if you’re primarily a keyboard player, take a look at the MidiPhy Loopa, which is more of a midi recorder / looper, as opposed to seq4, which is very much a “step sequencer”

Re: Midibox seq v4+

Midibox hardware uses something called “mios studio” which is a computer program that allows you to load firmwares to the midibox devices and also acts as a fairly comprehensive midi monitor. It’s not something I’d be using live..??? But definitely a good troubleshooting tool. (This thread should be...

Re: Hardware sequencers that'll import and save MIDI data.

An MPC is timeless because of its relative flexibility. It will do what you want most of the time. With multiple MIDI ports it is designed as a centerpiece of a midi studio. Not much else compares even to this day. That being said, wanting to download midi data can mean a few different things, so a ...

I’m sure any MPC will do this too. Also the roland MC sequencers from the same era.. (90’s I guess)

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

Stice, the idea is (for example) that a slope generator patched to be a divider for instance isn’t as versatile as a dedicated divider. I’m not saying that it’s not useful to have that ability in a pinch, or fun, or ingenious. It’s that ability that leads patching into really unique directions and u...

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

Can someone explain Serge to me? They look like regular simple modules to me. My 20cents on Serge.. Serge has lots of regular “simple” modules, and no menu diving. Lots of buying options these days. What makes Serge different is how the core modules are designed to be patchable into performing diff...

You’d be better off spending the grand+ on an O coast and supporting modules.

If you want a big diy synth project, perhaps consider ttsh? ARP 2600 clone..

If your workflow involves easy integration with a DAW and you prefer the effects there, then it’s a no brainer. Clear off some desk space, tighten up your set up, and you’ll be more productive.

Re: Designers: For VCO frequency why aren’t trim pots used for course tune and big knobs for fine tune?

My two cents on this... Feel of a control comes down to the geometry of the knob and the construction of the potentiometer. That combination should be tested and reviewed until the designer ends up with the feel / durability/aesthetic that they desire. Durability is down to pot choice and pot mounti...

Normal as in plain vanilla. At this point more features and specs shouldn’t be the important thing. So I mean an analog vco with a few wavesjape outs, a few cv ins and that’s about it. Get two. Same wth the envelope generators. Everyone loves to say get Maths but learning that module is a journey i...

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

Add two “normal” oscillators, two “normal” envelope generators, and dig into that system for a few months. Tons and tons of sound potential there for sure!

Then decide what you need to get where you want.

Yeah seeing all the countersunk holes for hardware made me realize that until these are actually assembled, it’s not the full picture. I know Jim’s tendencies toward...

No MIDI on this. I meant using my midi-cv..

Hand cranking the landscape and using that to control te-2 sounds like a fantastic way to get truly organic controls.

Just being able to play the tapes back modulating the speed the start stop, the filter etc. will be fun. I don’t think I’d want to use them as delays because then, yeah you lose it all.

Funny how people out of the area spin Newburgh which yes, is part of the Catskills, but sadly has a real problem with drug related crimes. Little to no Eastern European influence these days. I don’t think anyone’s trying to spin Newburgh as a Catskill nature park. Old city with lots of relatively a...

Re: What about Zoom R16 as a mixer and audio interface?

I have an R16. Here’s a tip regarding those super tight input jack sockets on the back: you don’t need to plug the input jack all the way in. I just plug my stuff in until it meets resistance, but before you give it the extra push to “snap” it in. It works fine that way, no signal loss, and then yo...
