Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths
Nice patches, sir ruff. I like a lot of the keys/strings in there. Very interesting naming conventions, haha.

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths
yeah, it seems odd that a studio would drop the equivalent of $10,000 in today's dollars to listen to chimes, bells, calliope and weird electric piano/hi-passed strings combos. It seems like you see this weird concept in a lot of these mid 80s synths - even something like the Roland JX-10 and Alpha ...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths
Also, the Xpander/M-12 presents have to be some of the worst ever made. Worst ever made? I don't know about that. A lot of them aren't my style, but you can spring-board off of old standbys like St. Genevieve or 2001. I think they're much more representative of what's possible than what you find on...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths
i hemmed and hawed and decided to just buy an Xpander. It hurts that I paid current going rates, but 'buy once, cry once' right?

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths
anything that can achieve blip in pitch with an envelope is fast enough for me. Try doing that on a JX8P/JX10 and hilarity ensues.

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths
alternatively, i suppose one could just pursue other synths using the CEM3372.
I like how you get hints of that fizzy resonance here:

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths
Man, i've been hankering for one for a super long time, too. But yeah, at current prices, it's a tough pill to swallow. For me, it's something about the signal at higher resonance that fizzes (distortion? as someone noted above?) that i absolutely love. In the video below, it's demonstrated in the s...

I'm sure this is answered here somewhere, but if you want an ethical Pro One right now, is a Prophet 6 in unison mode (or the Rev 2) going to give you that mood? This is the first behringer remake I'd consider buying. But ignoring price, curious what the Prophet 6 desktop in monosynth setting, or R...

I actually had to send my module back to roland for calibration since it was so bad. I was initially only getting 1 octave of tracking before it started getting wildly out of tune. And, of course, Roland is secretive so they don't post calibration docs, so I was without my module for something like...

are the 512 oscillator modules known to have bad tracking behavior? with pitch cv going into one input, the other oscillator is normaled to track with it, but the range switch only seems accurate for an octave or two... with pitch CV into both inputs, they are even less accurate it seems. love how ...

Should I be mindful of oscillator levels into filter, and then filter into VCA? What I mean is, is it possible to push the mixer levels into overdrive, as well as the filter? This is what I DON'T want to do, as I am not into aggressive sounds. I've been running the oscillators into the filter with ...

The one on the left is a lot of System 100, but what are the middle and right sided ones? Looks like a mix of 172 (phaser) 173 (gate/mult) 150 (ring mod/noise/S&H/LFO) and174 (parametric EQ). That cabinet on the right is pretty much a utility system on steroids. The left cabinet and middle look lik...

I've just gotten my 505 & 555 into the case and everything is working for me. How is the 505 sounding? How does it compare to the 521 if you have one? They've not landed here yet but I'm hoping it has that fuller sound of the original system 100. I've got the 521 as well. They're very complimentary...

n.b., I got the 555 (utility) and 505 (filter) modules yesterday and the 505 sounds pretty dope but the 555 seems to be borked. the white noise out works just fine, and the ring mod, but that's it. everything else is defective as hell. bummer! anybody else experience this? btw, i have the original ...

I have all five modules from the System 500 series for my classroom. It is ridiculous how fun that synth is. I love seeing my students engaged with making sounds. I’ve been waiting for this second line of modules to appear. These are going to be a damn near instant purchase. Malekko did an amazing ...
