basstation II - 4.14 updates! (April 14th!)

Novation have made a great synth an incredible synth...again! https://novationmusic.com/news/bass-station-firmware-v414 This now has an independent third oscillator, and standalone program change setup for making a kind of drum machine. re-triggers for envelope too... developed in partnership with A...

I have the no.1 version. it's a standard for me - no-brainer.

The timing sync is epic for latching to a bass kick or synth line, as it monitors transients.

the wet-dry kill settings are also incredibly useful. It's still a game-changing delay for price. Nothing else like it

Monitor feed is very low (from tape out to tape in)

Hi All, I have a new mixer - an Alesis 12r. I have connected my 'tape out' on my amp, to the 'tape in' on the Alesis. The levels when I press 'tape' monitor are extremely low. I can hardly hear it through the headphones. I have to crank the level way high, introducing loads of noise, but the signal ...

Mixer setup options: pre v post vs dry kill v wet...

Hi guys, Bit of a producer's challenge here: I have recently bought an Alesis 12r rack mixer for home use. I'm no pro, but I can grasp the (very) basics of pre and post aux sends, just about. I appreciate most delay and reverb should be post-fader (generally). The issue with the 12r is that it has o...

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm really focusing on less vs more (apart from the 2 aux of course!). As I say, i'm not a pro. This is a hobby thing, and a small package is what i'm after. I can persevere through pre-fade fx if needed. I used to have a Soundcraft 16 channel mixer, but the truth was that...

thanks guys. the fostex is a good one to add to the list. the neatest is the samson. Can I use the Mon Send as an FX aux (I know it is pre-fade, but That is not too much of an issue, right? Also, the FX return on the SM10 is stereo... which is handy. I'm still keen on the Alesis 12r, as it has a tap...

Which rack-based mixer? 8 Ch +, with 2 aux? 1-5U?

Hi All, I'm looking for a neat package of a rackmount mixer, something 1U or up to 5U. Not one of the bigger e.g. soundcraft, rack-mountable mixers. I'm not very schooled on mixers, but I'm keen to get 2 aux sends (one for reverb, one for delay - ideally stereo!). The issue is that most of the aux s...

Thanks guys - I knew it would be complicated! Shame that is no way to synthesise white noise though... that would have been interesting.

I'll probably for something basic then, like a Kinks, or MST noise kit.

How random is white noise, really, and how do I make it?

Hi all, I know there are varying degrees of random. How far is white noise random? (let's not confuse with pink, violet etc. - unless it's important?) I have no noise source in my rack. I have a wogglebug ., but at high clock rates it doesn't sound like noise. I'm keen to see if I can create noise f...

New Rare Waves module/ kit: Hydronium (303'ish)

Hi All, This looks fun! :hyper: http://rarewaves.net/category/diy-kits/ There is some talk in the youtube comments section of a glide CV in... fingers crossed for that. I'm seriously tempted. I foolishly sold my MAM MB33, and I think this would be a great replacement. If it has midi CC then it's a n...

Hi folks, I’m considering swapping my wogglebug for a diy ssh retrokative (complex s&h). https://retroaktivsynthesizers.com/collections/modular/products/retroaktiv-ssh-variable-slope-voltage-controlled-sample-hold I have never quite got to grips with the wogglebug, and the ssh seem very similar in f...

I'll add a bit of balance here: Only YOU can say whether it will work, but personally the workflow was a major issue for me. I tried and tried and tried... but it never stuck. I think there is jsut too damn much. Secondly, I never enjoyed the 'sound'. Anything with serious FX or sound manipulation, ...

Which adaptor: SM58 XLR into 1/4 jack ?

Hi, I'm not well versed on impedance matching and phantom power and all that stuff... Tried to google, but just got more confused. I have a SM58, and i'd like to plug into my cassette 4 track (Yamaha MT8x). The recorder has no XLR input. Do I HAVE to get a mic preamp? Can I just get a XLR to 1/4inch...

Interface + mixer combo with 2FX S/R, on a budget?!

Hi All, I'm looking to simplify my desk layout. I'd like an audio interface, that doubles as a mixer (so mixer can be used standalone, without a computer). I believe these are called 'hybrids' or 'combos'? having 2 FX send/return would be great - one for reverb, one for delay. 4 inputs is minimum. X...

They can't tell you that in the manual because it will depend on the voltage of your input. I can't remember the values Pam's uses off the top of my head, so this is for illustrative purposes only... Say Pam's CV1 responds to 0-10V (adjust this to the correct value in the manual), and your sine wav...

thanks CPTNAL.

I can appreciate that - but it doesn't explicitly explain how ERot would would respond to, say, a sine wave... or a triangle wave... at either 50% or 100% attenuation (or whatever)

anyone?

responsiveness of CV modifier on new Pams workout? (erot)

Hi All, done a search, looked in manual - no real answer... What effect does the CV modifier have on different PNW functions? I am speaking in particular about 'ERot' or 'Estep' in Euclidean setup. I have set the modifier to respond to CV1, but I can't really tell what it is doing. If I send a gate ...

I'm in love with all things 303... especially new derivations and experimentations, as from Frusciante's new stuff (although this also includes a lot of 202 stuff) The degree of expression and nuance you can get from cleverly using the slide and accent is completely unique. The problem is that there...
