Re: If you had to pick one OSC for a small system. Which one would that be?

I thought I was alone in not liking Plaits so I have kept it a guilty secret for years. Thank you for giving me the strength to get it out into the open. Hahaha!!! My guilty secret is Clouds. I can’t stand clouds. I’ve watched videos and tried and tried but everything I’ve ever done with it sounds ...

Re: If you had to pick one OSC for a small system. Which one would that be?

Call me a heretic but I never felt any inspiration or excitement from Plaits. I much prefer the Joranalogue 3 as a wilder choice. Perhaps add a 2hp vco v2 to that, or even a Disting Mk4 for extra sample-based interest. I thought I was alone in not liking Plaits so I have kept it a guilty secret for...

Re: Joranalogue GENERATE 3 - Through-Zero Multiphonic Signal Generator

Oh, this is a fantastic oscillator. I've really clicked with this one. The look, the feel, the thinking behind it. I'm not sure if I've ever had so much varied fun on the first day with a VCO. It sounds gorgeous. It can be so many things, and there's so much control over the various aspects of timbr...

Re: Random Source Serge NTO: repair options

I never heard back from Random Source, but I did locate a UK repair service: www.marmotaudio.co.uk. Unfortunately, they've determined that it's most likely an issue with an IC on the main board, and certainly not a simple repair. Assuming the IC is an SMD, it should actually be simpler to replace t...

Why do you need -ve voltages for pitch?
Isn't that normal with 1V/octave?
You can apply negative voltage to many 1v/oct inputs and the pitch will go down.

Re: Patch Ideas!

Just to give you a few ideas to try when you get stuck in a rut: If you're modulating something try also modulating the modulator. Mix two modulators together (invert one to subtract it from the other). Mixers are cheap and often underrated. Ask yourself if something you're treating as a source of c...

Re: Patch Ideas!

This may sound obvious, but read; read a lot. Module descriptions, threads on this forum, manuals (RTFM!!!), etc, even if they don't seem to be immediately relevant. Possibilities and ideas lie in unexpected places. This is especially true if you have modules like Maths and Rene, where the answer to...

Re: Joranalogue GENERATE 3 - Through-Zero Multiphonic Signal Generator

Triangle -> filter ;) Despite your smiley face I should point out that I'm not referring to getting a clean sine out of the G3. It's the internal sine pre-FM that in an ideal world would be clean. Filtering can't intervene in this scenario. Can you explain what you refer to as internal sine? I thou...

Re: Joranalogue GENERATE 3 - Through-Zero Multiphonic Signal Generator

Just a quick question for any Generate 3 owners: this video and some of the comments talk about how the sine on the Generate 3 is not very clean, so much so that Synth Diy Guy himself says that he uses the triangle instead to get smooth FM. This seems a shame, surely a clean sine is a core component...

Re: Beginner Sequencer Guidance

After owning a lot of different sequencers and recently doing a ridiculous amount of research I narrowed down the best current options to the Frap Tools Usta and the Five12 Vector. It was a close call, and either would probably have done the job, but I chose the Vector. If you've got the money it's ...

Re: Need advice with next VCO(s)

If you decide to go for the Verbos Complex Osc, which is an awesome oscillator by the way and I highly recommend it, make sure you get one of the revisions that includes vactrols in the various CV paths. Do you know when Verbos revised the CO to no longer use vactrols? Is there an easy way to find ...

Re: Doepfer or different alternative?

I don't think that "even better" is the right way to think about this. Doepfer is definitely good at what they're doing, the question is whether their style - mostly bread-and-butter modules, no-nonsense design, rather HP-ignorant ergonomics - is what you like. I have to take issue with the term "H...

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

When I see a really big modular system I just think it's too much to mentally process. In fact, part of me is attracted to the idea of a smaller and more focused setup than I have now -- maybe someday I'll downsize. For now, I am really pleased with what my synth can do in its current form. If anyt...

Re: Why is it hard to let go of one Complex Osc for another one when they are all basically awesome?

If I've understood you correctly you've gone through a Furthrrr, a DPO, a Verbos CO, and you're now thinking about swapping that out for a Donut. This strikes me as a potentially endless, and very expensive, way of proceeding. I can't help wondering what you're trying to achieve. Was there something...

Before ordering, do you have access to a multimeter to measure the resistance of the pot ? it would confirm 100% it's the pot with a 2 minutes test, even if you never did this before, before you engage someone to solder it for you.
Thanks for the tip!

Random Source Serge NTO: repair options

One of my Random Source NTOs has suddenly started drifting in pitch. It sounds very much like the frequency pot is at fault so it's probably a simple repair, though it could be more involved. Anyone able to recommend a UK option for repair? Or is someone on here able to take a look (for money of cou...
